€420 return for the two of us in a cabin

I got €300 and something but even so that's very expensive. Don't really understand why it's so much. Ferries are usually fairly cheap if you're a foot passenger. Oh well.

The Black Sea coast of Bulgaria or Romania is really too far away in the time frame unless you either flew (to Vienna?) or flew one way, some holiday flights to Varna or Burgas in Bulgaria.

Or as mentioned above, Lake Balaton in Hungary or Lake Constance in Austria/Germany/Switzerland.

FWIW AFAIK, you don't have to book a cabin on the ferry between Corsica and France. It's more comfortable if you do, but nobody's going to stop you dozing on the seats or on the floor (as long as you're not in the way).
