Dubversion said:
but the phone i just had nicked was a Sony Eriksson k700i and it was a piece of shit - the camera broke, the central joystick thing broke, it was bollocks. and everyone i work with has one too - corporate thing - and they all hate them too. was the k700i an abberation?
yes it was crap the brought out the 750i about 8 weeks after the 700...

I've got a Sony Ericsson, it's the first model, whatever the number is, it's absolutely knackered cosmetically but it's still going strong.

I suppose there are always gonna be a number of phones on any model that fuck up like yours did Dub but everyone I know who's got a new Ericsson have no complaints. I'd love one of those W800s but I can't justify a contract atm.

Iow, I'd go for the W800. The styling is a bit naff but apart from that they're ace. :)
they have released the w800i which is in black rather than the cheapo white now too!!

Agree with comments on Motorollas - kak!

I've got a Samsung d600 and its by far the best phone I've ever had.
Great camera and video resolution, decent memory size, nice slide action, playing games on it is actually worth it with this screen.

problem with most of these suggestions is

a) they're fucking expensive - the K750i is circa £200
b) i don't have a contract, and wouldn't be able to get one so the phones are automatically more expensive. (see a) )

looks like somebody at work can flog me a fucking K700i - crap as it is, for £30 or so i can cope for now and wait for the K750i to get cheaper.

tbh if you can wait till the end of the month you can have my old k500i it's abit battered like but it'll work till you replace it...

If you don't really care about it much, just get whatever's cheapest and has the features that you want, but isn't a Motorola.

They did? I got my K700 in September 2004, the K750 didn't as far as I know appear until last summer.

Oh right, for some reason I just assumed pay monthly...yeah that would probably be the price of the phone for payg.

I've got a black, battered but working t630 you can have for free if you so desire.

Sony Ericsson have taken over Nokia by a long way.. workmate just an N70 and it's no better than the K750i was 8 months ago..

Nokia's are a fair way behind. After having had the K750i for 8 months, I can honestly say I've never had a better phone. Never had a better gadget actually.

Will continue to buy Sony Ericsson until Nokia stop making pieces of shit that break within a week.. they gave up innovating and trying to improve software - never good to rest on your laurels.

Last good phone Nokia made was 6310.

Sony Ericcson phones are a pile of wank, not even good to use as doorstops.

Maybe 3 years ago, they're vastly ahead of Nokia now. Nokia have only just caught up with the k750i that was released 8 months ago!

mobile phones, great capitalist conspiracy.

How much does it cost to run a mobile network? not as much as a land line.

Even if you were charged 1p a minute the companies would still make millions.

And to top it all you're having to pay £100 for a new phone?

rant over
(info straight from a vodaphone managing consultant i met)

You pay for mobiles, how odd - voda just give me whatever I want for free once a year.

Good advice. Motorola...mend one take one repair one lend another.
V3 is following in a long tradition of piss poor clam phones from Motorola, (anyone remember the Startac?). Avoid like the plague.

I've got a Nokia 6230. Best phone I've had in a long time. Although the newer software on the 6230e that Red Cat has seems to be a bit slow. Mine's fine though.

No they don't. You're paying for the phone in your contract, you plank.

I've got one, and it's very nice. Good camera, very good personal stereo type thing, battery life is excellent and the interface is fine. :D

I'd definitely recommend it...

went for the Nokia 6230 in the end, much as i wanted that K750i (and especially since Pie Face got one on her contract and i HATE her having a better phone than me  )

best thing is that this

Good choice Dub - One of my younger sisters has got the Nokia 6230 and she's had no problems with the phone so far. She bought it in December 2004, and she told me that she ain't going to change it for a good few years! It's a good all round phone, although it's follow up i.e. 6230i isn't shoddy neither.

What's the problem that you've mentioned about the 6230 - is it do with the USB connection (transferring files from the net - using Nokia's PC suite) or the call reception?

Well, thankfully so far i've had no probs with my current phone a Nokia 6630 which i've exchanged a few weeks ago to replace my old phone i.e. 5140. But the only crticism that i've got with my new phone is the menu branding/firmware by Orange which spoils the user interface of my phone - grrr!

when i use it for the radio, the connection is pretty poor and, like a Walkman past its best, i have to jiggle or balance the headset plug to get it to stay connected properly

I've had the same problem with my old Nokia 5140 i.e. the reception quality when listening to the radio station was average to poor. I bet that PieEye is gloating about the k750i having a much better radio system i.e. Sony RDS system built in (which as far as i know) displays the name of the current track on the radio station that you're on. Plus it's the best cameraphone (or non 3G phone) on the market.

Hehe MC5! :)

I like my Nokia phone. Can't remember the number but it's got a camera and a radio. I've dropped it dozens of times and it doesn't care, but there's a crack running across the screen from when i sat on it and there's dust in the display. It's really easy to use tho.
