oh - mine's in the bottom of my bag... it looks nice for me when i take it out to load it / charge it up. i like attractive design. :)

In fairness, I wouldn't recognise tasteful design if it give me a swifty in the nads. I'm more of a functionality person.

As far as HD players go, iPods certainly aren't any more fragile than any others - I've dropped them, sat on them, kicked them etc. There's not a lot of room for anything to move about inside and it's got a metal case. But no player is going to put up with everything.

You can get cases and stuff (well, you can't for the new iPod yet because it's a different shape to previous models, but there are bound to be some coming out very soon indeed).

you can get cases for the video ipod check out these sites

I think a case is a must anyway because the ipod does scratch rather easily and if you are expecting it to manhandled then u will definitely need one of the hard cases.

Whilst we're on the subject, has anyone else noticed that their "shuffle" facility isn't as random as it should be? On mine the same songs keep coming up (out of a couple of thousand) and I'll often get three songs from the same album within the space of about ten tracks....

Glitch or poor programming?

Blimey... if you want to store that much music at that quality - you'll need the biggest possible hard disc you can...

200 album CDs at 200+ (even with VBR) is something like... 90 odd GB? (very rough calculation assuming about 45 minutes of music per album! someone else with a give a better one probably)

60 GB is about as big as they come.

Can you get the bigger one but with an extended warranty? Would that be sensible??

Was it a mistake to use such high quality?? I compromised a bit and didnt use the 320... can you change them once they are on the laptop if you want to fit more in??

Absolutely, that happens with mine too, and of course it is usually the ones you don't want to hear that seem to be the most frequent...

It is a pretty standard mathematical equation for 'random'... has been for the last few decades since it was known as far as I know.

Anyway... you can definitely reconvert to a lower quality with most music software.

Extended warranties are available - but I don't think you'll see any of the manufacturers go for larger than 60GB devices for a while... few people need that music at once with that high a quality.
