Help - How hard can it be to network two computers???

OK..............

So I set up the router and the reciever card to 128 bit WEP encryption using a 28 digit HEX key. But its not working.

It might be something to do with completing the "Profile Name" box correctly - I am not sure what that means. I know what the network name is but what the heck does profile name mean?

Anyone have a clue?

For WEP do people use Hexidecimal or ASCII? I have had so many problems with WPA-PSK, if WEP is no better I might just ditch encyrption like EVERYONE else who lives around me.

Thanks Bob.

But i worked it out - changed from Hex key to a passphrase and discovered what my profile name was.

All working now with 128 bit encryption on WEP, for what thats worth - still feels like a sense of achievement.

What an absolute bloody palaver though - you'd think they would make this easy. The people that write the instructions - you'd think one of them would have good written communication skills.

<edited for poor communication reasons>

Definitely Hex based.

I can't find the option to use 128bit encyption in windows, when I choose WEP, it only uses the first 8 characters or so :confused:

No, it accepts all characters but shows 8 (?) black dots when you go back to that window after you have applied the settings. The number of these black dots does not represent the length of the key used.
