Help children and dyslexics, make English more phonetic in its spelling,

Or maybe less controversial, refusing to install double glazing despite the gains, because it looks better with the older windows?
That's another rubbish argument as the effects of double glazing are proven and desirable

Also, as I have stated quite clearly, the questions asked by Sci were quite valid, but they were addressed in the OP. Of course there would be problems as the German experience indicated quite clearly. But until someone decided to restate the questions with this in mind, I will NOT be answering them.
yeah you've sid it thick disablled basher that you are but the thing you fail to understand becuase you are trolling with you why not change speeling so spakkas can walk thread is that no one in their half cut brain seizured dranged mind would think that in anyway you linking to changes in German spelling reform wiki entry come close to answer the fucking questions....

you prize retard.

As a defective person in your eyes anyway i hope you won't mind me pointing out that your near autisitic levels of insistance that you have done something you patently have not would put you into the camp of the people you hate...

hang the fuck on you're a teacher?

where and which education authority i think they need alreting to this thread and your attitudes generally towards anyone with any form of disablity... right fucking now...

god alone knows how many kids you have damaged for life with your insididious ideas...

I understand the urge not to interfere, but when suffering is identified in a system we usually talk about changing it, rather than simply turning around and saying 'accept it, that's the way it is' etc.

Isn't there room for improving the world? And if so an example?
Yes, there is, but you haven't yet shown how your suggestion would be an improvement at all. In fact, people who know an awful lot more about dyslexia and child development than you are telling you it is a bad idea and would make things worse, yet you continue to persist. People like LMHF and scifisam have completely demolished your argument and you continue to refuse to answer scifisam's spot on questions

So you're happy with double glazing as a good step because it is proved, but seem unable to acknowledge that spelling 'through' as 'thru' because any benefits are less important than your own view of that word as 'beautiful'.

Trying to have a discussion with you is really quite hard with your constant attacks. I have explained my actions before and stated that I would not answer the questions as they were adequately covered in the links I gave.

I don't consider the issue decided either way. LMHF et al have their views and they are entitled, but they were not convincing because they couldn't give a decent reason why thru shouldn't be written as such. In fact I agreed with many of LMHF's points, just not on this one.

And your argument for spelling thru isn't convincing at all

I suppose having seen the successful teaching of English thru phonetics gives me a unique view. And experiencing a country with a language which is phonetic, and finding the article about Germany. All these things point in the direction of advantages which I never dreamt of.

Still the conservatives will always argue that the system has always worked this way. It should be no surprise that you ignore what I say or attack it unreasonably. Maybe I should learn that this is why the UK will never change, because people are much happier whingeing about the flaws in the system than solving them.

Your arguments for aesthetics would have meant that we would never have developed at all.

Especially as the letter u commonly represents three different sounds in English. Standard English has 20 distinct vowel sounds.

Gmarthews, why are you engaged in a persistent attempt to cast everyone who disagrees with you as fuddy-duddy old reactionaries? This is not only laughably desperate, but also offensive when you suggest that disagreeing with you on this is akin to supporting slavery. May I suggest that instead of posting bilge on the subject of spelling, you read up on logic and the construction of arguments? You would benefit enormously.

Oh, and for the record, it's a bit daft to accuse people who support the standardisation of language and spelling of being reactionaries, as these were in large part due to the advent of the printing press, one of the greatest progressive advances in technology of the last millennium.

This phonetic English thing is a non-starter for various technical reasons, including fundamental grammer as well as the structure of the phonetics.

If you really value efficiency the way to go is to invent a completely new, utterly phonetic language with new letters and a new alphabet (none of that Esperanto-Spanish-lite twaddle), with new punctuation marks (several are redundant and the parenthesis-capacity is underpowered). Preferably one with a reduced character-set to get rid of the bulk of the wastage of computer-resource during digital transmission, and ideally one that is machine- as well as human-readable.

Those that want to carry on with their silly old-fangled languages can do so if they want.

this is a really shit idea. who the fuck wants to write phonetically, it'd even look shit, actually it'd make us as a country look like right thickos.

Allowing students to spell words phonetically. In time 'sycolojy'
:hmm: Sircolgey

*back to reading post#2

change all to phonetically LOL never going to happen. we are losing it now with text speck

Mrs M Computer technology best way I played part of this thread with Testaloud ( of other software) that what need in schools at an early age problem child. Can hear the word with time recognise the sharps of letter that make the sound depending how bled letters are.
