However, in these and other reported cases, the helicopter has been used to confirm prior suspicions raised either by patrolling officers noticing something or by electricity companies alerting the police to unusual patterns of usage.
They still don't go out on fishing expeditions just looking for cannabis factories. If whilst on routine patrol they happen to come across something which catches their attention they will, of course, report it for furrther investigation.
They will also sometimes be used as part of an intelligence led operation - where information has been received about a factory in a certain area, or where several are specifically suspected to be.
But no, they don't go up and down just looking for cannabis factories and nothing else.
