Heinieken Cup 2008/2009

Well Os win game, dont top group, but should be OK for qualification unless something freakish happens tomorrow.

Assuming that Wasps will go thru as one of the second placers, only Bath or Toulouse could stop us qualifying. If Bath win, Toulouse are out anyway, I f Toulouse win then Bath will be out unless they score 5 tries in defeat, can't really see that as being a possibility, but will cross fingers tomorrow just in case!! Of course a draw would fuck things up, but unless its a draw with Toulouse scoring 5 tries then we'd be OK.

Anyone wanna check my maths?

The Os game against Leicester was something of a wat of attrition, Os played all the rugby, Leicester just their usual cynical unexciting selves. They were lucky not to have Murphy sin binned, or concede apenalty try, imho, and Shane should sue the fat twat that is Stuart Barnes for a libellous commentary!

pretty accurate summary

what a terrible game to watch

the os should have done much better, and will not with this competition unelss they learn how to deal with days like this

The Os game was atrocious. Really atrocious. The Tiggers showed zero interest in winning the game. They were there for the BP and nothing more. They were cynical, mindbendingly tedious and absolutely lacking in any attacking intent.

The Os, on the other hand, were exactly what they always are. Shambolic, tactically inept, prone to costly mistakes at critical moments, guilty of making the wrong decisions at critical moments (see Ryan's decision to go for the try in the first half rather than a kickable pen which theoretically could have given them the 8 point gap to win the group), poorly organised and poorly coached.

Henson was disappointing at FB. He dropped high ball after high ball (seemingly the Tiggers only *attacking* weapon) where he's usually so strong. Byrne starting would have won them the game, IMO. Hook and Phillips are as flakey a half back pairing as you can get. Both capable of breaking the line, both capable of moments of brilliance, but utterly lacking in composure or game management. They are incapable of marshalling a line, and that bodes badly of Os and Wales. The Os have the current best winger in the world on the wing, and he gets the ball a total of three or so times in a game. Why is this?

Anyway. Fucking spawny Tigers get a QF against the weakest team to go through to the knockout stages. They are shit, mind. A shadow of their former glory. and as pedestrian and uncreative a team as you're ever likely to see.

Os are already out, IMHO. There's no way a team with their lack of cohesion or, indeed, a clue about how to approach a game, get in front and close it out will get a result at Thomond Park. No way whatsoever.

Interestingly, Julian White is being cited for gouging the Hibbardotomus. If found guilty he'll miss the 6N and England will have some REAL problems given that Matt Stevens won't be playing anytime soon. I think the once unthinkable possibility of the English scrum getting an absolute mullering will be very real in that instance.

Well, that had it all - rain, sleet, hail, a bit of snow and some nice cold winds. Apparently there was a rugby match on as well but fucked if I saw any.

3-3 says it all. Well pissed off, I was looking forward to that for months, Toulouse at the Rec should have been awesome.

The heavens broke half an hour before kick-off and we may have well played in the bloody Avon the amount of water on the pitch.

And now Bath are away at the boring buggers. We've gone from Toulouse home to Leicester away.

My first thought about White was how convenient it was that a Welsh team cite a key English player (even though key through circumstance) just before the 6N, but in less cynical moments I realise that White is a dirty bastard so I wouldn't put it past him.

How is it decided who plays who in the semi finals? Is it into a hat and first drawn gets home advantage?

Points - just combine the league tables into one and it's 1st v 8th, 2nd v 7th and so on.

eta: With the top 4 at home.

Having seen both Bath and Leicester live this season I've got to say that you looked the much better side. Far more ambitious, far more willing to run and far more willing to sling it wide.

That said, the game is at Welford Road, and the bastards are guaranteed to grind you down in a boring, low-scoring slugfest with its fair share of cynical play and gamesmanship.

I read an anecdotal on one of the Welsh rugby websites from a guy who was sat about six yards from the incident. He saw the Hibbardotomus at the bottom of a ruck, then he heard the scream, and then he saw him getting up, tamping, with blood pissing from an eye socket. He then went for White. Read into that what you will. Interestingly, the Os are insinuating that Corry also gouged the same player later in the game. If this is true, I hope the fuckers get very, very long bans. Gouging is appalling, IMO, far worse than tooting a bit of coke.

Yep, gouging is an arsehole's trick so they should at least look into every allegation.

White, of course, denies it but I'm sure I heard rumours of him doing it a few seasons back as well. You can get a few accidental pokes (an offence in its own right but not at the level of gouging) but repeated incidents and especially drawing blood - if bendeus' mate at the match has reported correctly - suggests there's intent. Nasty.

I think they have to act today or forever hold their peace. I reckon they've got to look into it, it's dangerous and vicious.

I don't really fancy our chnaces at Leicester, when we play teams who manage to slow the ball we don't look half the team. Leicester are masters at that. Moody is out again after breaking his ankle, shame as I had some time for him despite his home team, but it may make our job a bit easier.

Hopefully theyll forget & switch it to the football ground as before.

They're just drawn, aren't they? I think before the QFs are played:confused:

Semi finals confirmed:

Winner of Blues vs Toulouse get a home tie against winner of Tiggers vs Bath

Winner of Munster vs Ospreys get a home tie against winner of Quims vs Leinster

So, that's:

Blues vs. The Gougers

Mymosthatedteam vs. Leinster (exciting for all you Oirish, I'll be bound)

Blues - Munster final :)

shame
an all irish or all welsh final would have made better watching

i think it will be a munster - tigers final
a re-run of '02

shame, i like cardiff- but the tigers are just bastards

Tiggers don't worry me. Blues gave them a right shoeing at home earlier on this season, and nothing they've done or shown since persuades me that they'll be able to turn up against Cardiff.

They should have lost by more against the Os if the Os had managed to string more than two phases of play together in the Tiggers' half. They're a busted flush.

My comments earlier this year notwithstanding;), Blues are far better organised and tactically aware than the Os. Their back line has far more penetration and their players are on form. Most importantly, they play as a unit. Blues' victory away against Gloucester proves that they can lap up GP sides with a crash ball three quarters and a heavy pack all day. Leicester won't offer much more.

Toulouse, however................

I think that would be fitting - best 2 teams in it this year in my opinion.

Be a great final too

Yeah. Blues have less to fear from Munster than many as well. IIRC they've got a respectable record against them over the last couple of seasons.

Going back to what was said earlier about gouging.

If you watch players' reactions I thionk it says a lot.

The odd punch thrown and players will be pissed off and winge, but they accept it is part of the game.

Gouging on the other hand gets them really really pissed off, because its NOT part of the game. The reaction of the Os forwards on a couple of occasions on saturday told me that there was something well out of order going on in the front row!

I'll stick my neck out here and say Blues v Os final,I know what ya going to say, but if we can beat Munster I reckon we'll make the final.

Os will never beat Munster at Thomond with Holley and Humph in charge. Not in a million years.

I agree and to put it the other way I think Muster have most to fear from Cardiff than anybody else.

I'd rather play Quins than Leinster in the semi though. Just because we battered Leinster a few seasons ago in the same round and if they have any pride it would be the time it may surface. They have a decent enough team to be able to put a performance together.

It would only be the one performance mind. They would revert to Ladyboy type and get battered in the final

^^^
Also this. Munster's advantage is fear. Just like Manyooniyted, sides expect to lose against them. The Blues don't fear Munster, the Os most definitely do.

The Ladyboys have changed. They are much, much more abrasive up front than they were when you humiliated them. They'll give Munster a game, no doubt. That's a semifinal I'll absolutely be watching.

I've taken a punt and booked for the final. It's very cheap at the moment and there is a very good chance of an Irish team being in it.

At worst it will be a I'll be at one of the best sporting events of the year in a great city. At best I'll be at one of the best sporting events of the year watching Munster in a great city.

It's very cheap at the moment - flights, tickets and 3 nights for an appartment is 1200 yo-yo's for 4 of us. If Munster make the final it will be 1200 a head.
