Health Food Junkies

I really liked the programme!

I thought the woman with the kids was incredibly brave in giving her kids such a healthy diet, I'm not sure that they shouldn't go to school though :(

Who says it's a healthy diet though? I don't think it's healthy at all. And I don't find her actions brave - I find them selfish in the extreme. (not having a go like Zenie - just stating my view).

And the kid had no mates because his mum wouldn't let him go to school because he wouldn't be able to eat only raw food. Poor little bugger :(

yeah that was what i thought.
the early years of a child's development is essential. interaction is a must.
i felt for the kid, i really did.
he reminded me of a new-age hippie kid i went to school with.
poor sod is gonna have issues when he's older.

Where do you get good protein from in a raw veg diet?

nuts/seeds/sprouts

The people on it? Why don't you think it is?

Was that the reason? I thought she just thought it better to school her kids at home than have them go to a school. he did have a friend.(Who was a vegan! :D )

The Mum was a bit barmy but she probably thinks the same about us feeding our kids a normal' diet, that we do to people who feed their kids fast food and turkey twizzlers!

They can't give an objective opinion about it being so wholly and almost evangelically committed to it.

OK - I wouldn't say it's unhealthy per se but I'd take issue with calling it "the healthiest diet in the world" given that people all over the world have been perfectly well-nourished on cooked food for, well, forever!

I'm pretty sure she said that she wouldn't send him to school because he would be exposed to non-raw diets which I think is pretty poor on her part - and probably not the real reason given that she seemed very insular. She could give him a raw packed lunch and let him sneak the odd crisp off his school-mates if he wants too.

I'm sure! I just feel a bit sorry when parents inflict such extreme beliefs (whatever they are) on their children to the extent that it appears damaging (although it may not be of course - it just looks that way to me).

they all had this 'purity' issue.
that somehow from eating plant foods etc - they were cleaner than the rest of the population.

i don't know if they were going for immortality or what.
but it all seemed a bit of a waste of money...(i eat some of the oils she eats. and to have them organic as well...it costs a bomb. you need to be mega rich to sustain that lifestyle).

Yup, it wasnt just the raw food, they had 'vortex pendants' and little boxes with flashing lights that get rid of all the 'parasites' in your body.

Yeh that couple were nuts, I don't think the other two cases used that stuff diod they?

As for being rich, most nu-skool hippies are rich innit ;)

I'm not defending the diet cos it's not something I would like to be a part of. But it's personal choice and not for me to criticise. :)

Don't you think you would be? I don't know of any scientific comparisons but I'd say eating the kinds of stuff they eat they would be cleaner wouldn't they?

I just wanted to slap the smug rich couple shopping in Whole Foods Market - "Oh look darling, we'll need a couple of lemons for the sauce"- the whole thing about "We can't shop in Sainsbury's any more cos most of their food isn't good enough". The whole thing felt like some exclusive club for the rich and neurotic to join to make themselves feel special and superior.

The people making these supplements/dehydrators/health foods must be raking it in.

I'd also really like to know if their diets are actually all that - seriously. They all looked properly ill, despite being so controlling in what they ate. If the diets are so healthy then why did they look worse than most of the people in my office?

plant food products are an alternative.
it's 'marketed' as healthier but healthier for what?
i mean i use to think that soya milk was healthier than cow's milk.
but in reality, too much of either one is bad for the body.

i think health depends more on lifestyle than diet alone.

anyone been here?

As Nature Intended - Organic Shop in Balham?

i went through a health phase once.
and a weeks shop can easily fetch £100 for one person!

the health market is the biggest scam of all!!!!

Heh, I used to go there when it was still an Iceland :D

That says "35% of calories are protein".

As there aren't many calories in sprouts there can't be much protein.

It actually refers to 'bean' sprouts not brussel sprouts which is what I thought you meant.

i think beans have the richest source of protein in plant based foods.
(but you need to eat twice as much to get the same amount as one whole chicken).
