I'd go for AC/DC too, like so many other discerning posters here, but I'd far rather have Back in Black than Highway to Hell.

Ace of Spades also a winner.

Retired ex headbangers like me need obvious choices!! :p
Thank you William, I thought my choices were obvious as well but there's always some who will grumble.

Although I agree with soj inre: your picking a geordie giant johnston tune rather than a bombastic bon scott boomer. Back in Black was a great comeback album but Whole Lotta Rosie and/or Highway to Hell are far superiour singles imo.

Yes, and no, I do remember their track, Crash, Bang, Wallop (not a cover of the Tommy Steele song). They were on Neat Records the same label as my faves, Venom!

Anybody got any recommendations for a NWOBHM compilation? So much of it passed me by as a kid not living in a big city - although even if there had been a shop selling the records I wouldn't have had the money to buy them.

Yes, I remember Crash Bang Wallop as well.

Can't help with your compo idea, i sold most of my HM records many years ago in times of financial destitution unfortunately, which is why i need my aged memory jogging with threads like this :D

80's metal was proper pussy. I don't even regard it as metal. It's just rock these days, most of it dad rock at that.

Not saying i don't enjoy areosmith, guns n roses bit of ac/dc but I never call any of em metal.

Most of the tracks in the op are only good for driving compilations.

i've decided to go for Ace of Spades myself. just been eating my curry for dinner and it came on the stereo in the cafe and it sounded damned fine.

don't forget the joker....

I voted for Dumpy as well. Not metal but ugly enough to qualify, I reckon.

Box Hill, Box Hill, here we go... :D

On the subject of Twisted Sister - brace yourselves - to my horror, the intro music to CNBC's Squawk Box US programme at the Davos 09 conference yesterday was "We're Not Going To Take It".

Yes. I know.

unless someone has posted it up already i quite genuinely think 'Wild Flower' by the Cult is probably the best heavy metal track EVER.

though i fucking love sabbath and it's very difficult to choose but one of their tracks. off the top of my head maybe Symptom Of The Universe or sweatleaf?

fucking great choice

eta: belter, check out this sweet leaf vid :D

Pantera - Domination.
Arch Enemy - Burning Angel

They should be in there, especially Domination. One listen and you'll headbang until blood comes out of your ears.

DIMEBAG RIP!

Mark.

Yeh, but if people have been complaining about my including the Lizzy, I can't see how they're gonna accept the Cult for best heavy metal track.

(Even though i think that Wild Flower, Love Removal Machine and She Sells Sanctuary should all be in with a shout).

You're joking arent' you?! That's Manowar, it's they who coined "DEATH TO FALSE METAL!!!!" orignally.

Good shout on Krokus as well jefe, I'd forgotten all about the Swiss rock gods. Bedside Radio was a killer single by them iirc (even if the title of it doesn't lead you to believe that :D)

Krokus.... ! Next you'll be saying Anvil or Accept!

Manowar are metal! There are as metal as a car or a steamroller....

DEATH TO FALSE METAL!

Griselda

I did indeed mention Accept earlier on in the thread (Balls to the Wall). The name Anvil rings a bell as well but I'm jiggered if i can remember who they were?!
