having to eat humble pie at work...

i don't know anything about this report or why you do or what it's for

That says a lot about her, and it's not good.

having to eat humble pie at work...
...when it isn't your fault
.....is the act of a fool, (sorry) I was that fool, many times, too.
Each has their own reasons, hopefully wise up to them, and work gets better. For me, work got worse, and these "takers-in-life" ground me down.
I think I was overlooking them, as they seemed hopeless to work with.
I think, learning to deal with these sorts is a rite-of-passage, without which, theres not alot of hope. In our soceity, the takers and the doormats, have both missed this rite of passage.
Depending on the job, work could be enjoyable, once this rite-of-passage has been done. Sometimes, these tw*ts can point to a new direction for you, a more interesting job, and more mature colleagues, as you become more wise to noticing positive influencing people to spend time with.

PS Managers knowingly cut more slack for blatant cheats, its part of the very important but unwritten rule of working life.
I dont fully understand the rule, as I was baffled by it, and knew cheating would be pointless in my case, as I was one of the ones whos face never fit.

*starts looking for new job*

For what it's worth that's how I left my first two jobs (incidentally was invited back to both on better terms after leaving - an offer which I didn't accept). Sounds like this other person that was at fault has someone in the pocket. In that situation you can't win (at the second job someone at least told me that I was in a "no win" situation).

You either take it from everybody after apologising for something which isn't your fault (probably involves blame from a client, where you've covered for the person thats done you as well right?) or leave............ consider going contract if you can.

aplogise but in such an over the top manner he knows your taking the piss
choclates or a cake always help
if you can pull it off with a straight face its brilliant.
as jesus says return hatred with love (it will drive your enemys berserk):D

Anybody got any ideas on how to make someone at work understand that when you say 'no, I'm not coming on your software training course because I'm running a department singlehandedly for three weeks while the other two members of the team including my boss are off sick, you actually mean 'NO', and not 'i'll say no to you but if you go running to the managing director of the company over my boss's head and get him to ask, then I'll drop eveything urgent I'm working on and fuck off out of the office to sit on my arse doing fuck all for two days'.
I think the answer to your question is that you say "Yes, of course I'll come on your software training course. Of course, you will no doubt be aware that, due to me being the only member of the team actually at work, all work in the team will stop for the duration of this course, and I will be so heavily backlogged on my return that it is likely that the service will be seriously degraded for as long as it takes for me to catch up or my colleagues to return from sick leave."

Obviously, you say this in writing, and cc the memo as appropriate.

The force is with me.

I got into work on Monday morning and there were TWO (TWO!!) stroppy emails to everyone saying that the course has been postponed until October because nobody can make it.

I sent an email saying that perhaps a one day course would be more suitable for everybody. He's gone quiet ever since....

It's quite funny, because lots of people can't make the October dates either :D
Watch the whole thing just fizzle out and disappear without trace.

Either that, or they'll try and bull through the problem by ordering a 3-line whip and MAKING people go. Which brings you full-circle?

General consensus of opinion is nobody wants to go.

I reckon he'll have reasonable chance of getting us to go if he does a one day thing. Thing is, this guy has been given a new job (he thinks it's a promotion, word on the street is it's a sideways movement where he can meddle less) and now thinks he's got line management responsibility for three departments, and doesn't appear to be listening to people when he's told he doesn't. Word is he's a bully too.

We'll see what happens, but I'm expecting more skirmishes over the coming months.
