Have you seen Maggie Thatcher in the flesh?

was she actually buying stuff - food? Hope it had that Sudan 1 in it.

I think she was trying to blag something......

My lecturer said she was a chronic alcoholic that drank two bottles of vodka a day....

Maybe she was blagging the corner shop owner into getting lots of voddo in?

She'd get an ear bashing from me if I saw her and so would you if you started on me like that. Respect for what? Respect for selling off every piece of property this country owns into the hands of the venture capitalists. It would be nice if one day before the twisted evil old crone died she had to listen to what some of the ordinary people of this country who had to put up with her for nigh on 15 fucking years actually fucking thought of her.

I bet you voted for her you piece of shit.

Ordinary people voted for her. She's done more for the working class than that wanker Tony ever did. Plus she didn't have to go around lying to people.

For instance why is everyone around here getting so up tight over Tony trying to out-do the Tories on immigration? Everyone knows if Nu Labour get's back in, he'll soon forget about promises made on immigration.

Whoops, forgot Maggie is masturbation-fodder for the likes of you.

Enjoy your bishop-bashing, and remember to put the kleenex in the bin, not in your pocket.

After all she was voted in again and again by the people of this country...
Ahem, SOME of the people of this country. Am I going to have to dig up that same set of statistics that I post every time somebody posts this same rediculous myth that everybody loved Thatcher.

You are obsessed with immigration and racism.

She never achieved more than a third of the total electorate.

I thought I'd take this opportunity to mention that I had dinner with her in 1977.

Nothing could have prepared me for those eyes..........

I'm not a fanciful type of chap, unless the K's abeam of me bugle, but. Pure evil. What more can one say?

Here we go again

In 1979, Thatcher won 43.9% of the vote, with a turnout of 72.0%, for a total vote of 31.6%

In 1983 (the first general election where Thatcher had been in power), Thatcher won 42.4% of the vote, with a turnout of 72.7%, for a total vote of 30.8%

In 1987 Thatcher won 42.2% of the vote, with a turnout of 75.3%, for a total vote of 31.7%

So Thatcher's support base was, like exosculate says, less than a third of the potential electorate.

Well some people have short memories...they forget Wilson and Heath. Forget the strikes and power black- outs. Some of you won't be old enough to remember pre-Thatcher . You harp on about them bad olde -days..but you have nothing to make a comparison with. Why do you think she lasted so long ? Why do you think she was voted in again and again ? Because people remembered what it was like before..when a handfull of people could hold a country to ransom. Again..I also think a lot of you spout about Thatcherism because its's trendy to be seen to do so..especially here. Its' the past..move on. Hey you fucked up Mayday , perhaps you can get off on G8..

I saw her when she visited Swansea in about 1980.

My Dad made me where a sandwich board with some kind of slogan on it :o

But someone threw a smoke bomb at her which was exciting.

With the exception of 1979 (which, in many ways was more of a referendum on Callaghan than anything else), Thatcher's support base was, like exosculate says, less than a third of the potential electorate.

Well I make 43.9 percent of 72.7 percent a different figure - infact 31.6% of the total vote.

So i was right

Funny how less than a third of the population remembered this terrible time

The vast majority of people never voted for Thatcher, fact.

Saw her at the Earl's Court Motor Show, probably 1980 or so. A big mob of minders/hanger-onners bustling her past the crowds. Think it was near the Bentley stand.

I presume that's the working class that aren’t Miners/Dockers/Steel Workers/factory workers. Nor the people who were effected by the abolition of the minimum wage and wage council. Or the working class that post council house sell off cant afford to buy in the area they grew up in.

Handful of people held the country to ransom did they pbp?
I smell Daily Mail.
I remember the '70's quite well ta. I was in the Tory party.
3-day week was great. So were the powercuts. Dad got to buy me a motor with the overtime money paid to catch up with the contracts. Powercuts were good to. If you had a generator, and could rent the tv room out to the neighbours.

Told you I was a Tory. Heath was a good bloke to. Europe and all that. Got pissed with him at the Oxford Union bar once.

Know why you loved the Thatcher years. Overtime and waving yer wad at the miners. What's the difference?.

Still, as you might say, I moved on. I'll be pissing away with the rest on the old witches grave.

And, funnily enough, I don't have the same charitable attitude to plod as I once had..........

The plod all bought their houses on the backs of the miners strike.

Tell me about it. The plod these days have to shift beak to get the deposit. Heart bleeds. Like a Forest Gate DC's bugle.

I thought if you saw gorgons in the flesh you turned to stone...?

Actually, I remember my mum coming home from work when I was younger saying gleefully that Thatch had visited a place just across the road from her office. A couple of her younger, more yuppyish colleagues had gone out to cheer, but most of the office lined the windows, booing and catcalling for all they were worth...

Yeah...she was great wasn't she ! I do miss the old dear...there's no more fun anymore. I had high hopes of those Mayday people..but they turned out to be a total loss. People just don't know how to demonstrate anymore. Hey ho..I was getting to old the wrist loses its' strength and flexibility after a while. The reverse truncheon strike is a hard act to follow. :p

Yes, I have had the pleasure and privelege of meeting her. It was outside her house in Flood Street in Chelsea the night she won her first election victory. A charming and gracious lady. :D

Your argument so far fat kozzer.
Thatcher’s old so she's now beyond criticism.
I'm older than you lot so therefore I know more about all of this than you.

Can anyone say "patronising twat" :p

You were about to give her untold shit were you ? Your very brave aren't you ? I also wonder if you were even an adult when she was PM. You don't sound very mature in this post. I suggest you grow up and stop trying to prove your some kind of hip cool urban revolutionary. Beating up on senior citizens dosen't earn my respect.

but Margaret Thatcher is an exception to the rule.

Good for them. Who'd turn their nose up at the chance of overtime? They must have loved it.
