Have you had your 'colours' done?

Someone i worked with was on that programme, a very nice person, Trinny and Susannah bullied her into wearing things that made her look middle aged and dull.

Before she went on that programme she wore quite tomboyish but nice stuff, and looked just fine, at the end of the show she looked miserable and stupid.
Well, it's not going to work for everyone is it? :)

Why did she go on the show if she thought she loked fine?

Talking of such stuff.. and I am far too manly to start my own thread on such a topic.

I really want to get this suede suit jacket I've seen for my wedding in a couple of weeks time, but can't think what trousers and shirt would go with it.

It's this colour, maybe a tad lighter:

Brown%20Suede.jpg

I was thinking of very similar colour trousers and a bright shirt of some sort. Mayhaps even a pink or red dress shirt. Any ideas? I know black trousers would look shit. Howabout cream trousers?

she didn't think she looked fine, she could be quite insecure, and she certainly didn't think she looked fine once she'd had trinny & susannah take secret pictures of her and totally pull her apart with her boyfriend and family all agreeing that she didn't care for her appearance enough.

I think pink would look nice with that :)

Dunno about trousies - I'm not a fan of cream trousies. What about a really rich chocolatey brown?

So,
a) What's the himalayan salt thing about
b) What's so bad about what Trinny & Susannah do?

Sounds like you're feeling a little unpretty Kyse :D

a) It's something you can sell to brain-dead Sloanes with too much money.

b) Ain't nothing new there - bread and circuses for the over-moneyed and under-brained.

Is that like colour me beautiful?

me and SubZeroCat used to spend ages reading our mum's books from the 80's and marvelling at 'Barbara's' makeover.

Yeah, it's so very very 80s! I used to get upset because it kept suggesting I should wear baby pink and sky blue and I'd think Oh noez- I want to wear teh blackz and teh khakiz damnit!

HOW much??!!

but you'd save that in a few months from not buying the wrong colour clothes and make up etc IMO.

I wouldn't! I only buy clothes max twice a year - I fucking HATE buying clothes. I just buy work suits in the xmas sales (and the odd charity shop), and wear the same tshirts, jeans, and jumpers for the rest of me *cough* wardrobe

Anyway, I'd only get pissed off with someone confirming what I already know about wearing red :D

they don't let you wear black - only about 0,0003% of people are allowed to wear black.

fuck that.

my mum had the colour me beautiful book in the eighties too, and my big sister had them done, when she first graduated. i was jealous of her long concertina of silk swatches of all her colours that they gave her to carry around in her wallet. i was only about 14, though.

Yeah but that's you  :D

I rarely spend over a tenner on anything to wear but I buy stuff that I haven't a clue whether it suits me or not. I have a weird thing where I can't actually see what I look like . Just means that I buy somehting, wear it and see if anyone says it looks nice. I'd like one of those 'capsule' wardrobes with about ten things in it that mix and match and always look fabulous.
Today I'm wearing a thermal vest, a raspberry red v neck long sleeve t-shirt (that's lower necked than the thermal vest meaning you can see the vest), a mustard crochet long bed jacket, thermal leggings, jeans with dye down the front of them where I've wiped my hands on them and brown leather clogs. I just went to tesco and over that lot I wore an old mans black duffle coat and a red mohair scarf. I'm just as likely to be wearing a spangly frock.
I think it would be 90 quid well spent :D

I think I must have a 'capsule wardrobe'. I have 8 suits, with 8ish tops, of which I usually wear 5 of cos the others need ironing.

I rather like the description of what you're wearing actually :D

First of all, Congratualtions Idaho!! I've managed to miss that you were getting married. Thought you already were actually...
Anyways, I was going to suggest a light blue shirt under the jacket, but that still leaves the problem of the trousers...It's a tricky one, difficult to say without seeing it in the flesh like, but ggod luck anyways!!! :)

btw. If I could afford to get 'my colours done' I would. I'm always picking up clothes that I think are in a really nice colour, but when I hold them up to me, they look disgusting.

I just have no idea what I look like. I don't know if something looks nice, makes me look fatter, thinner, whatever. Drives my husband mad cos he doesn't believe me

Yeah, in the minds eye it could conjure up images of a trendy Stoke Newington type but in reality, when you're size 20, walking round the supermarket with your husband in his leather lambing trousers and an oil stain on his forehead it's more tramp than camp vamp :D

Well, why don't you go by just what makes you comfy? Or the colours you like the look of? There's no rule book, it's a load of shite.

I think you sound ace! But then, I've always been more tramp meself :)

I'm only truly comfy in my pyjamas or dressed up as someone else.

Me too. I bought a pea green v neck jumper from New Look a couple of weeks ago cos I love pea gren but it just looks bad on me :(

I'm with ya on the jims :D If only mine didn't shrink in the wash :(

Who do you feel comfy dressed as then? *intrigued*

With colours, you are either warm (gold) or cold (silver). So all the cold colours - blues, purples (unless it's a reddy purple), greens go together and the warms -red, pink, orange, yellow go together. No, not all at once. I know I generally suit warm colours - having dyed my hair loads of different colours, I can outright say that blue and black make me look ill, I can just about get away with a lime green and red/ pink look great. I still wear a lot of black and sometimes a bit of blue but the reds/pinks suit me the best.

Very nice. Cream trousers and a fuschia shirt would look good with that I think. Ooh we can celebrate your wedding in May :)

You could wear a blue shirt instead if pink's a bit scary.

Next time I'll get someone to take a photo and I'll PM it to you :D

Thanks Madzone, Aurora and Trashpony :)

So bright shirt good, trousers undecided. Not sure about plain bright shirt or striped/patterned. I kind of think striped/patterned lacks dignity for a wedding, but did see some nice shirts the other day.

The trouble is what to do. Do I buy the jacket I like and then wander round the other shops waving it at likely shirts and trousers to find the right one, or just make a guess, buy stuff seperately and hope for the best

Btw, I normally buy one item of clothing every two years and wear the first clean item on top the unsorted clean clothes pile every morning - hence my need to hijack this thread rather than justify one myself :D

Is the jacket on sale in a general men's outfitters? If it is, get an assistant to advise you. It doesn't cost anything and they like doing stuff like that IME (unless you get the work experience 16 YO). If not, yes, buy the jacket and try it on at shops that sell shirts and trousers. Again, get a sales person to help you.

Or do you have a friend you could take along? Shame I'm not nearer - I love helping blokes choose clothes :D

I'd think that with that jacket and a bright shirt, plains would be best. But you won't know until you try stuff on

Yeah the shop with the jacket had a 16 year old (probably) who was on the phone the whole time. However it is the only I have seen and tried on that I thought "hmm... not bad at all" so I may as well based the whole ensemble around that.
