Have you ever sold a ticket on ebay?

I think the only solution is to ban the pre-sale of tickets for all gigs and sell them on the night. People will queue up to pay to get in. If it's a 3000 capacity venue then the first 3000 people will be in. If you are 3001 or behind in the queue you will be told that the gig is sold and out and you should go to the pub instead. This may involve queueing 24 hours in advance for a gig and large numbers of police, safety stewards and St John's ambulance people to oversee the process but so be it. Only the 'true fans' will get in and their will be no place for Johnny Ticket Tout or Tina Ticket Agency. ;)

:D luddite..

So there we have it.. £1.55 PROFIT   Who wants a pint?

On ebay? You should make a note of the buyer's ID and keep an eye on whether they re-sell them. I've become so cynical recently

i would have thought that the people that are selling them on eBay have actually bought the tickets in the first place for the full face value. how else would a tout get hold of the tickets. its not like they can walk around cyber space saying "buy any spare tickets" is it? if the above is true then its people who either cant make the show or who bought the ticket in the first place believing that demand for the show would so great as to be able to sell it for more than they bought it for.

Ah well.. saves me the trip.

I went to see Mozza in Birmingham last December. It's 2 hours each way plus petrol. I'm thinking about paying a bit over the odds for the Cardiff gig as there's no travelling involved. We'll see.

Glad you got your money back on the ticket anyway. :)

the cunts here are ebay..overnight they could change the rules on selling tickets...what Hollis did was fine but it's really become a business in itself and ain;t doing the music scene any good

yeah - ebay should at least put a cap on the amount that tickets can be sold for on their site. face value + a reasonable amount for P&P or something.

I can`t really get myself worked up over the tout/ebay thing , I`ve bought tickets from touts over the years , sometimes below sometimes above the face value , I make the choice wether I consider it value or not. In almost all cases ( some football excepted ) if you want to get the tickets at face value and can be bothered to get your arse into gear early enough to do it then they are yours.
Buy Easyjet flights 6 months in advance great value , too lazy to do it until the week before do they become cunts ?

Hard to get bothered about

It's easy getting tickets when they announce the gigs

I love the argument that fans give, "they're charging £80 on ebay for my favourite band!"

Well, don't fucking go then, or see 'em on the next tour when you get sorted out with this new technology, you know, e-mail prompts for yer new big thing band

I love Tom Waits, he charged £70 face value, so I didn't go
Did it ruin my life, did it fuck

disagree..there's cartels of touts on ebay now too, buying tix off the internet for shoo-in sellouts and then whacking them on ebay. going to a gig is bl;oody expensive enough these days.

on a wider issue live music is going through a boom at the moment and besides the ebay cunts and touts there's a lot of greedy people trying to line their pockets for a quick buck (agents, promoters, venues etc) and it will bust sometime if they continue to puruse the greed line that the dance/superstar DJs brigade pursued

sorry, but that's nonsense. if you've got 10 times the prospective purchases as there are actual tickets, it's not simply a question of getting "your arse into gear" early.

that's not true these days. it's a matter of luck. one example - me and the missus both tried to get tickets for the arctic monkeys at brixton academy recently. we were both on the phone and on-line the moment the tickets went on sale, but because so many people wanted them they sold out extra quick and we didn't get through, no matter how many times we redialled and the on-line tickets went off sale almost immediately. and then there were loads for sale on ebay the next day for stupid ££££££££. people who suddenly realised they couldn't go selling them, or people who had boguht extras purposefully to sell at a mega profit?

as i've said in reply to hammerntongues, that's simply not the case these days. you can be on the phone straight away, on-line ready, but still not get tickets due to the sheer volume of people who want them. it can be a case of being more down to luck rather than by design.

Yep - happened to me several times.

it's because hammer.. and christ.. go and see rubbish bands nobody likes, so they don't know how tough it can be ;)

"shit band, no fans"

Saw Jinxy Lennon last night at the 12 Bar Club

Fucking excellent

Or was that the ten pints of Guinness?

I get your point, though, but how many of these people are only trying to see the Arctic Monkeys for the first time, ain't they been around a while

If you only like bands the press hype, then that's what will happen

Sorta

I'm pissed

still not true, not really. Many acts - especially older and non UK acts - play rarely, and don't tour and certainly don't need the cash, so they might announce one of two London dates for the whole country in a theatre venue for the prestige. So those, what, 3000 tickets?, have to stretch a fucking long way

Ok I have to stand corrected it seems but having been attending gigs for longer than most its very rare that I haven`t been able to get tickets I have wanted on release if I applied early enough.
If a band is , how to say ? In vogue ? shit I don`t know , typically Arctic Monkeys then things have never been different have they ? Its hard to actually approve of or applaud the Ebay touts but IF you decide you want to see a band AND you are prepared to pay the price that only you consider acceptable then you can. There are times I have turned up outside venues in the hope of getting a ticket and failed , at least Ebay gives you an option without , in my case , travelling 1/2 hours only to be disappointed.

has it really changed or has it just become safer for everyone ?

i've been attending gigs regularly since the late 70s and i still disagree. Perhaps the market is different now, many bands don't play so many small gigs, the costs associated with touring pushing them to playing big metropolitan arena / large venue shows instead. But despite dogged determination, i quite regularly fail to get tickets for bands i'd like to see.
