Niall Ferguson's deep-cover sock-puppet
Any business is going to tell you that - they're hardly going to encourage people to walk out without paying. It doesn't mean that you're breaking the law or that the police will do anything. It's just a bullying tactic.Bloke at work tried not to yesterday after complaining all the way through the cut that he didn't like what the barber was doing only to be told that if he didn't pay that the police would be called.
We had a dispute with security at a protest where they had taken our banner down and we were refusing to leave the premises until they gave it back to us. They threatened to call the police so we called their bluff and got the plod in ourselves. They dutifully upheld the law and made the security guards give us our banner back.
In reality, the police probably won't come out anyway. They tried to resolve our dispute over the phone, but the security guards weren't having any of it. This may not have helped them when the cops did arrive.
