Have you ever had a McDonald's in Brixton?

After it was C & A it became a sort of pre-Matalan with remaindered stuff from department stores, then it was Superdrug. I'm pretty sure anyway. My memory isn't what it once was.

I remember that, didn't it have loads of stuff from BHS? Or was it a BHS? Wasn't it where M&S is?

While I'm at it, did buses ever have blue lights? When I was falling asleep last night I suddenly remembered getting on a bus with my sister and there being a blue fluorescent tube above two aisle facing seats on the right. WTF? Who in their right mind would want a blue light on a bus? Sitting there with their dandruff all fluorescing? Was there a spate of junkies trying to shoot up on the 35 in the early 90s? I NEED ANSWERS.

The coach from holland has some weird agreement with mcdonalds where one of the stops at about 3 am is in the middle of a huge car park where the only thing open is a mcdonalds. They shuffle you off the coach and virtually everyone lines up and eats the stuff - like a conveyor belt it is.

Eta: Hehe and just before the driver pulls into the mcdonalds he says 'When you eat at mcdonalds we are stopping here for 45 minutes' and i thought at the time it was sweet cos the dutch often mix up 'When' and 'If' but when i got to the car park i realised he had the correct usage and did indeed mean 'When you eat ...'

The second hand furniture shop is where Brook is now, near the back of the Academy and I bought loads of stuff there. MacDonalds was a furniture shop too, where I bought your big sister's bunk bed from, Pip. Remember that? Your little brother's bunk bed came from Atlantic Road.

Hah, so MacD's was a furniture shop then. I knew I didn't imagine it.

Now, where was the furniture shop on the other side, where Iceland is or where Robill's was?

I think it was just being very modern. It was the first really modern looking bus. I prefer Routemasters still, meself. I can't remember why we were on a 250. Not a bus we used much back in the day. Actually maybe we'd been in Streatham in the winter when it was dark and it was the first bus that came along to take us back to Brixton. I remember that journey though and how we all remarked on the weird blue lighting.

Actually maybe we'd been to Pizza Hut in Streatham. But maybe not. I thought we'd been to visit your sister. But maybe for some reason she was coming back to our house.

Might have been Iceland but I really can't remember...

I'm thinking Iceland myself (before it was Murray's Meat Market)

We need to find some pictures from 1984/85 :D

I remember it wasn't there that long though and I worried whether I would actually get my furniture or whether it would suddenly shut and mysteriously disappear

Was it before Death Metal Magpie was born? I don't think so...I just can't imagine what we were doing in Streatham. Until your sister left home the only reason we ever went out of Brixton was to go to the Natural History Museum, and that's not in Streatham.

Deffo, and I remember it being just me and her (she never let me sit upstairs :()

Can I preemptively point out that two people trying to remember the purpose of a bus trip twenty odd years ago is marginally more exciting than comparing McNuggets across the capital, so shaddap.

Remember Pip, I'm the original crap mum who never did anything exciting with you. She probably lied to me and said you were going somewhere educational but really you went skating, or bowling or something.

Anyway, my bed beckons. Goodnight all, who are probably wondering when it was that Mums stopped using the phone to have rambling 'back in the day' conversations with their grown-up children.

I'm just amazed a mother and daughter appear on the same forum. I bet Pip has a seperate user name for when she hangs out in the drugs forum.
