Have you ever been f*cked over by landlord/letting agent/tenant

Many apologies Herby, my sarkymeter needs rebooting. T'wouldnt surprise me tho if a professional painter would charge that amount, ridiculous tho it may seem. I'm old tho, and few things surprise me any more :D
Well I didn't exactly make it at all clear that I was sarcastic, so I think it was my fault

Yup this seems to be a speciality of mine.

First place, £800 deposit, 4 bedroom nicely furnished place. Returned.. £300
We spent two days, cleaning, vacuuming etc this place. Fucking landlady had had someone in for an entire month doing the bloody floors downstairs which he left in a giant mess. Oven was claimed to need a full clean £50 or something horrendous, after we took the letting agents recommendation of what they use and spending a good 3 hours making it spotless. Included many ridiclous claims including £20 for a fucking new kettle, which had worked every single day since we moved in, and on the day we left. Id have just nicked the damn thing if I knew we would have got charged for it, ended up paying £20 for the kettle that never was and another tenner on one for the new place, fucking ridiculous. £100 on alleged, cleaning, swear idk why the fuck I bothered doing anything. Seems she just saw we left paid cleaner £100 to go in and do her thing irrelevant of condition.

Then the last place, £775 deposit, UNFURNISHED 3 bedroom. Just got the DPS claim form back and the landlord, who was sposed to be a fucking mate, who then kicked us out without reason after 6 months, has claimed £720 of that. No list of reasons evident anywhere at all. Now this place had no furniture whatsoever, fitted kitchen which was spotless when we left, ditto the bathroom, rooms upstairs had painted or stained floorboards, not proper wood floors, just floorboards stained or painted. Downstairs had two carpets, which had 8-10 marks on each that were marked in the inventory, additionally marks on walls were recorded.

I cant even begin to imagine where there could be £720 of damage in that.
Infact Id struggle if they had the numbers the other way round and it was £55 damage.

At least get your £720's worth:

I got shafted by my old estate agents. They set up a separate company to "hold" tenants' deposits (the address of which is just a garage!) meaning when the tenancy finished they said this other company has the deposits and it's nothing to do with us. Said other company simply does not pay anyone's deposits back so I take them to a small claims court and win, but they still don't pay! We sent bailiffs round but because their business address is just an empty garage with a post box on the front there doesn't seem much we can do!
