You should have put an option for the ref to stop the fight in favour of either fighter. My verdict is hatton to win inside the distance:p

what a great punch to win. i've seen him do that a couple of times before. fantastic result for Ricky, still unbeaten and must be up for someone like mayweather or de la hoya now.

De La Hoya is much too physically big for Hatton, so there is zero chance of that happening unless Hatton decides to fight at the (allegedly somewhat porky) weight he walks around at in between fights! Even Mayweather poses some of the same problems. He's just fought at 154 lb, and even assuming he moves back down to 147, Ricky looked poor when he fought at that weight.

It's also quite wrong to accuse Mayweather of "dodging" Hatton as someone else did later in the thread. There are many more big names, big fights and big paydays for him at 147. He doesn't need to drop down two weight classes from his last fight and why should he?

I think incidentally that Hatton would be ill-advised to move up to 147 chasing Mayweather, Cotto, Mosely or the other big names at that weight. He was lucky to beat Luis Collazo at that weight, when I think he would have hammered someone of Collazo's abilities at 140. There are some excellent fighters at 140. It seems to be Hatton's optimum weight at the moment and he should try to clear out the division. The problem, as always in boxing, is that money talks and there may be more money at 147. Incidentally I think that Mayweather would give Ricky a beating at any weight, and for similar speed related reasons that Mosely does so at 147 too. Cotto on the other hand, despite an excellent performance against Judah last time out, would be vulnerable to Ricky who may not have Judah's boxing ability but has much more character.

I almost forgot to say, that was a brilliant performance by Hatton last night. Probably the second best of his career. I say second best because I think that Castillo was a bit disappointing, while Tszyu came to fight.

I'm ignorant of the Colazzo fight since I didn't see it, but an awkward southpaw can make anyone look bad at any weight.

A fair point.

Ricky looked bad in the Collazo fight. So bad that some people think he was lucky to get the nod, although personally I think that the judges got it right. There are a few possible explanations for that. It could have been simply his opponents awkward style. It could have been that he was uncomfortable at the weight. It could have just have been a bad day at the office. Most likely it was a combination of the three.

I was impressed with the fight.

What's next?

As i said earlier i think Hatton has the right style for Mayweather.
I know Floyd is the best boxer in the world but Hatton would swarm him not stand in front of him to be hit like Gatti did.The big if is the ref in the fight, one like the other night who allows infighting and a bit of rough and Hatton would be in his element,a ref like Jay Leno then it's floyd all the way.

Also the weight is a big factor;-Hatton can't "do" 147,in the DLH fight Floyd came in at 150,not the 154 light middle limit, which would suggest to me that Floyd could still make 140.But would he want to? There could be more money for a DLH rematch with not as much of a gamble because if DLH beat him he got beat by a bigger guy, easier for his big ego to take,i like Mayweather BTW.

All IMO of course:)

Two months into his "retirement", Mayweather has just announced that he wants to fight Hatton and beat the shit out of him. So now both fighters are calling each other out...

Mayweather, unbeaten, in his prime, pound for pound number 1, linear/Ring champion at 147... Hatton, unbeaten, in his prime, pound for pound contender, linear/Ring champion at 140. Fights don't get any more attractive than that.

So the question is, are they serious about fighting each other? It might just be talk and one camp or the other will block the negotiations, perhaps with unreasonable money demands. On the other hand there are very real reasons why each fighter might want it. From Hatton's point of view, Mayweather is the top fighter out there, the man to beat and also the biggest payday. From Mayweather's point of view, Hatton now brings a potentially huge payday, huge recognition and (it has to be said) probably less risk than someone like Sugar Shane Mosely.

Talk however is always cheap in boxing, so I won't really believe it until I see them step into a ring.

True. The thing is if negotiations break down both camps will blame each other, and we'll never know who's to blame(or care)

There seems to be a lot of hype for a Mayweather v Hatton bout so it will happen unless Ricky takes a fight in between and loses or something. I think Hatton does have a good style for Mayweather although you sometimes only see the best of Mayweather when he is pushed. Styles can make fights though - Roy Jones (best in the universe) against Tarver etc.

I reckon Hatton at least is serious because it's not his style to call people out if he doesn't mean it. The "more excitement in those 4 rounds" quote was directly designed to annoy and needle Mayeather.

And it seems to have worked. I think if Mayweather now doesn't fight him it will look like he avoided Ricky. He has said how limited he thinks Hatton is so it will be if you think he is so poor fucking fight him then.

And the best bit bit is that Ricky really looked on top of his game against Castillo. I'd love to see him fight Mayweather and i'd feel quite confident now that he could beat him, provided he makes the same effort in his preparation.
