Hatton v Maussa

Thank you Tony and miss giggles. I think his performance might make for some interesting fights - if people think they can spot chinks and probs...might take the the bout on that otherwise they'd avoid... (who am i trying to kid? I know how these things work - money)

Early on it looked like Hatton was getting angry with himself and kept rushing Maussa only to get caught up in clinches which ended up in him getting cut.
Once he backed off a bit and got his rhythm back it was always going to be his fight.
Maussa has to be one of the most unconventional fighters out there with his random angles and heights he throws punches from.
Hatton needs to pick his next fight carefully - he'll have a while to think about it whilst those cuts heal.

but... does he have enough to prevail, Mayweather may box the head off him, but not being a massive puncher himself, Hatton may be able to take the 3/4/5 shots to get inside Mayweather.... and get through with his pressure... he may prevail

I don't know mmuch about boxing but I was thinking along those lines watching the fights on Saturday.

Mayweather, though fast as lightening is very guarded isn't he? Do you think Hattons style would unsettle him?

A question for the boxing peeps: Would the fact that Mayweather would be coming back to 130 to fight Hatton weaken him a bit or does it not really matter?

That kind of thing depends on the boxer, in particular his "natural" size, and also on the amount of time he has. In this case I can't imagine Mayweather having problems with making the weight. He had only stepped up to Welterweight for one fight and had actually only recently moved up to Junior Welterweight from the lower weight divisions. By all accounts he walks around at close to fight condition most of the time anyway.

He doesn't have to go back to 130... Hatton is 140 and Mayweather fought at 147 on Saturday, he's WBC champ at 140... he's (Mayweather) after a big fight with Judah at 147 first I imagine. It'll be easy for him to go back down to 140.

peace

Meant to say 140 not 130. But cheers.

I was hoping the answer would be that Mayweather would struggle to get down and given he isn't a huge puncher then he wouldn't be able to hurt Hatton. :(

No chance, Mayweather would actually be more comfortable at 140 than he is at 147.

Hatton could conceivably win - he's a bloody good fighter and his kind of muscular, swarming style might just be the one to beat Floyd. But nobody should delude themselves about this, he would be a big underdog. Mayweather is the best pro currently out there in any division.

And by the way, while he obviously isn't the biggest puncher in the world, I don't see any evidence that he hits significantly lighter than Hatton does. He has stopped a lot of very good pros.

Nice to see we have a few boxing experts on these boards. Thanks, I love boxing but don't know too much about it so I really enjoy reading posts like these.
