Has capitalism become the only ideology?

I give in the sheer intellectual power of your arguments is overwhelming. :D:D

You think capitalism is an ideology.

Despite the fact it has been explained clearly that in political terms ideologies are things like liberalism, conservatism and anarchism.

Some of which underpin capitalism and some don't.

You are a tool, unworthy of discussion with.

For some reason I missed this reply you posted earlier in the thread. Apologies if it throws the thread out of kilter a bit but I think you make some really good points here.

I understand why you say belief, but I prefer the word ideology because, for me at least, it helps to explain that it's something that is imposed.
I take your point. I only prefer "belief" because some appear to accept these ideological strands on faith rather than reason. :)
I agree with you on this. I also agree with parts of Greenman's analysis, especially the points about why the state is insistent on introducing ID cards, the databases, and ever more intrusive forms of surveillance.

I wonder if the skills needed for this have been lost, particularly to the younger generations who have grown up in the 'throwaway' society the capitalists have created.
I'd say that the skills are (perhaps fortunately for succeeding generations) not lost, but more "in the process of being lost", so perhaps there's a chance that skills won't have to be re-invented from scratch. I certainly hope so.

Yeah, I thought there to be an inherent weakness in the thread title calling cap and ideology.

As I said earlier, in my opinion it depends whether you're talking about "capitalism, the over-arching economic theory", or about those ideological positions that have evolved from that over-arching economic theory. I personally take the OP to be talking more about the latter than the former.

Yes and such an ideological position would be neo-liberalism, as opposed to in different historical capitalist periods say war socialism or one nation toryism or what have you. It would not be the ideology that is called capitalism!

The OP may be meaning this but are we supposed to be mind readers!

No.

Just able to discern meaning through the application of reading skills. :p :D :p
