Has anyone ever volunteered in a zoo?

Well I happen to know all those ones and all the domesticated animals, but I need to get up to speed with all the reptiles, anphibs and all the sub species criteria/names, lingo etc. You know how it goes...

It's ages since I went to a zoo but they used to have labels near the cage / enclosure with the names and other info on them.

Oh? What do you do?

I do things like face painting, running the Panning for Gold section and the 'fill the animal shaped bottles with coloured sand' hut, run the kids train, supervise in the soft indoor play area or work in the adjoining shop, and in summer I sometimes sell balloons! Selling balloons is awesome because essentially I can just walk around and look at all the animals. The sealions love the balloons, they all get out and follow me as I walk past

At Easter we have a little grotto where I get to look after and hold rabbits, chickens and lambs for the day whilst kids passing through come and pet them, which is the best job.

I've sent you a PM Mads Volunteering at the zoo is fab....even if there are a few weirdos around, we had one woman who sat by the windows in gorilla kingdom every day for a month, convinced she had a psychic link with Zaire. I think Zaire was just wondering who the crazy cow freezing her ass off outside was.

I do get to hold snakes, ferrets, giant snails and hissing cockraoches though
