Has anyone been on a Sandals holiday?

dont see what the problem is - gay issue aside

most people dont have the time or inclination to go trekking or get down in the ( dangerous ) squalor of Jamaica - I dont suppose many of the couples who go there want to go too far outside the complex - they want to lie in the sun/ have a swim/ get pissed - hassle free - and Jam. is hassle for most people once you are out of the compound - ive been around it , and if you are not thick skinned, its hard work

its not for me obv, but if people want to cane their cards on a "dream " holiday, then its their choice

whether their "choice" is truly objective or dictated by glossy brochures or media is another matter obv.

I have heard that loose morals abound in sandals if thats your thing...

it diverts a massive proportion of the tourism income to Jamaica etc without feeding much back into the domestic economies.

most tour companies do sadly - unless you build your own schedule and avoid packages, then they are not unique in this respect - they are there for profits after all

istr - but might be wrong - that they don't employ many locals. also, most hotels - in fact to my knowledge, all the hotels i've stayed in around the world have been locally owned.

Not entirely true. I know of farmers in St Lucia who are held afloat by Sandals - they spend a hell of a lot of money on fresh produce locally, not to mention the local tour companies. Butch Stewart who owns Sandals is a very canny man and does plough a good bit back - for which we have to give up the islands best beaches for exclusive Sandals use.

In St Lucia Sandals are the biggest employer second to the government. Other than the upper levels of management, its all local.

And, tbf, Sandals Jamaica IS locally owned - Butch Stewart is Jamaican!
