TFL have given them permission to go until midnight!!!!!!!!!!!

not in brixton, but i was woken up at 2am in clapton, a few weeks ago, thought it was the dodgy garage doing dodgy stuff in the dead of night, turned out to be drilling in clapton station, at 2am ffs![]()

It's the only time they can do eningeering works without shuting the line.
I bet you'd be first on the "Commuting Ranting" Thread if they shut your line during the rush hour.![]()
but tbf, it mostly works ok, apart from when the victoria line is out, then the victoria line refugees fill the trains and we can't get onI however do not think the square will be amazing, it would have to have water slides, a ball pool, a trampoline, a petting zoo with the cutest animals imaginable, the world's best coffee shop with the world's best coffee and cup cakes, an ice rink, an old fashioned carousel with beautiful ponies and a teleportation machine to be worth 7 million squid.
I wish they would once having grassed over Rushcroft Road, invite local people and schools in to plant some flowers one weekend, it would hopefully create a sense of ownership and create some community cross-generational connections.
Kids' creative input should be limited to fairy cakes and drawings for the fridge.
I am sure most people have had that thought at some time or another, even if they may not like to admit it.Why is it up to TFL to give permission and not Lambeth?

£7m quid is ridiculous. All these building firms and consultancies know how to milk the public sector. Even the landscaping they've nearly finished in Myatt's Fields cost £3.5m![]()
I notice the works at Windrush Square will carry on until November 2010 according to the sign at the end of CHL - a long long time, which I guess is why the cost is so high.
I like the way everyone on this thread is an expert on the construction industry all of a sudden...

£7m quid is ridiculous.
who are you referring to?![]()
Everyone?![]()

Not just experts on the construction industry but experts on the costs of landscaping, services and traffic remodelling of the busiest junctions on the busiest arterial roads of the biggest city in Europe. Quite specialised in fact.
Alright, half the posters on the thread have made negative mention of the budget without providing any evidence to support their claims.
Happy![]()

They started at 7:30am this morning.
Anyway as it was me who first brought up 7 million pounds, this figure was from the nice flyer I had through my door from Lambeth council. Perhaps I wouldn't find it excessive if the figure was broken down so we could see how much was spent on what.
The fact is it isn't, they tell us this is what is happening after some public consultation [public consultations and the methodology of the questions asked is a whole side topic] that probably cost a fortune in and of itself and say it is costing 7 million quid. How much did they spend on the consultation for the name alone which was totally pointless as no one voted for it to be called anything else but Windrush Square? I would like to know where all that money is going, why and to whom.
And while I think public space is an important part of any community I don't see why it has to cost so much money and short of moving all the traffic into a big tunnel I don't see the area being greatly improved with the addition of a trendy water feature and some pink up-lighting. Surely the best public spaces are the ones the public are included in from start to finish, or the ones that develop organically? Personally I don't want to sit next to one of the busiest road junctions in South London hearing all the noise and breathing in all the fumes. For peace and quiet I'll pop up to Brockwell Park.
As I live next to a road where Lambeth Council has a disgraceful history of failed housing policy, I would rather see them spend the time, effort and money sorting out the housing problems on Rushcroft Road, surely safe and affordable hosing for all in the borough is more important than a vanity project to make Brixton look like everywhere else and attract the yuppies to push up the house prices.
Of course they could include a different type of water feature in the new square which would greatly improve the quality of my street, instead we get metal windrushes. So I want to know where all our money is being spent, I don't think that is too much to offer the council tax payers of Brixton, instead we get treated like idiots and are expected to take everything they say and do with a smile and 'thank you very much kind sir for this luvverly square you have been kind enough to bestow upon us.' Transparency would be a good thing.
42. How much will this project cost?
The London Development Agency (LDA) and TfL are funding the scheme and the construction will cost £4.25m.

Lol- I guess I am getting used to the general vibration.
I don't mind them going til 12 when they have been given the permission and I understand the traffic flow issues.
What I do not get is how they can't plan far enough ahead so that they don't start part of the job just before midnight and have to go on past the cut off, last night was 2.00am again! They must have some idea what is under the roads.
