Harry's Place / Guardian

Ryazan, take a look at Rebels Against the Future: The Luddites and Their War on the Industrial Revolution : Lessons for the Computer Age (Paperback) by Kirkpatrick Sale. It may give you a different view of what the Luddites were really about.

I already own The Luddite Rebellion published by Sutton. The blighters even confronted the army on the odd occasion! EP Thompson has written quite favourably about them too.

Haven't quite patronised me yet. Try harder.

1. Harry's Place has not closed.

2. It would be a good thing if it did.

3. For political commentary it's even worse than here.

4. What the Norman Johnson column is about is that Harry himself has retired from HP. This renders it a little like Taggart.

5. The Norman Johnson column is apparently written by Catherine Bennett.

:)

But at least it's got a sense of humour, which is more than you can say for other explicitly marxist blogs, like Lenin's Tomb, which is just dull and tugid.

Reading Harry's Place/Aaronovitch, and then watching the anti-war left ranting and raving about Harry's/Aaronovitch's sins, is like watching Jurassic Park, only in this version the dinosaurs are eating each other.

I'm sorry, but anyone complaining about Harry's Place having closed (even though it hasn't) really is the fucking enemy. One thing the internet doesn't need is another place for people to have their unexamined prejudices confirmed, and to be reassured that yes, Tony is killing people for the right reasons, no need to be alarmed. Worse than any of the right-wing blogs, who at least wear their politics on their sleeve.

Aint that the fucking truth. The fact that the Daily Ablution links to it as a place worth visiting speaks volumes if you ask me…

Sorry, but what is the Daily Ablution?

Lenin's Tomb may not be a bundle of yuks, but what humour is attempted on HP just comes across as smug and reactionary to me, and certainly not funny.

I'm not sure where you're going with that second paragraph....
