I do think Harry's Place is a good thing. At the end of the day, it's just some men (with a surprising amount of spare time during the working day) putting up their thoughts and reflections on current affairs into the internet.

And you don't find that a teensy bit suspicious? Lots of spare time to post a coherent ideology? After all, no-one's ever done that sort of thing in the past to generate a political movement from their wallet, have they?

Well I certainly worry about David T's billable hours! But I imagine he could have put together today's interesting thing about Tibet up in his tea break.

As for ideology - its just a bunch of chums, nothing sinister there. I don't think people should get upset because they punt a line on their own. They're completely up front about it, and we're all grown ups who are capable of independent thinking, aren't we?

It's not as if anyone of us needs a guru or leader to tell us what to think or that we are brainwashed into following any particular line?

I meant upfront about ideology, as I suspect you know. He's a lawyer in private practice and I think it's extraordinary that he has allowed as much personal information out as he has.

I don't have a blog and one reason is that I value my privacy and would fear the risk to my professional life and my relationships if it was any good. That and the fact I would never find the time to write anything other than badly formed mince, which is why I come to places like this to ventilate.

That's the one, and as you say 'straight left' rather than 'keep left' as i said earlier. That site, if it did nothing else revealed that these people wouldn't have lasted a week in Stalin's Russia, not without all grassing each other up anyway There's a fair few grads from there to HP i think.

imho this is not the point .. i do not say i LIKE this David T person .. I say HP has a usefull function .. doing what the left SHOULD be doing and picking up on fascism and reaction where the left does not wish those things to be ..
