Sorry not sure what you're asking? The suggestion on Network 54 is that the Harry of HP, is a one time Straight Left acolyte of the original Harry Steele. From reading the very plausible discussion over there, our Harry comes across as a bit of a sad man looking for a new home and new certainties following his eventual disillusionment with official communism.

Sorry meant that there was two Harrry Steels and the that one who pitched up on UKLN and is the Harry of HP took the name of the original but added an e.

It's David Tate (David T) I'm thinking off - right-wing lawyer. There was a piece about him on one of the other lefty blogs, but I cant find it now.

Too right. I it is a very great concern that the bulk of the non NL left seems to be worryingly enamoured of defending the indefensible whether it be political pond life like Galloway or siding with Islamists and other authoritarian scum.

Its pretty fucked up to do what the swaps and others of their ilk have done which is obsess about overseas issues and time and again have lined up especially in recent years with Islamists and disgusting tyrants whose policies are totally antagonistic with the sort of policies that the left should be be pushing which are issues of social justice at home. Its this gormless, slavish attitude of if they are against the US/UK/Israel then they must be our friends that puts off many people from being involved in left politics and thereby gaining some form of power. This obsession with soundbite internationalism on many issues and excluding the problems that are on everyones doorstep everyday pisses people off and could leave the left without any core working class support which will send desparate people flocking to the ballot boxes as they did in Barking and Dagenham to vote bnp or some other right wing monstrosity.

The only thing that the left will get from the Islamists is a bullet in the head. They like all violent religious fundamentalists cannot comprehend any future world where they don't have the upper hand and I would say that the ultra Prods and Catholics, Political Islamists and the nutty settlers of Hebron are all as bad as each other. Thats not to say I have a problem with individual STATES having a religious ethos but some religions mostly Christianity and Islam have a nasty drive within them that makes then want to conqeour and convert with book and sword.

I would feel the same way if the swaps et al had suddenly seem electoral opportunity and kudos in following some extremist form of Political Christianism or suddenly said that yogic flying was the way to socialism.

People are seeing that the left who should be there for THEM and have THEIR interests at heart are not doing so. We should be worried very worried about that.
 
If you take Harry's Place seriously you will end up having your life ruined, don't find out the hard way.

Well, he had a fair few people booing him when he spoke at the anti-war march today.

I think he said something back along the lines of us being "a pink curtain to hide the imperialist attack on Iraq" but others will have noted down exactly what the gorgeous one said....

no belboid .. it is FUCKED UP, it is DISHONEST, it is HYPOCRITICAL, it is NOT revolutionary, to NOT prioritise ALL racial oppression, ALL relegious intolerance, ALL fascism, ALL reaction ..

It is one of the many reasons why the vast majority of peole do not takek the left seriously in this country ..

we have to be ULTRA HONEST ultra fair etc etc etc

but yes we must also have context .. it is understandable wny those oppressed may turn to reaction .. but we need to admit and understand that not only in Israel, Gaza and Barking

i've been reading Harry's Place and Sp!ked recently. I don't necessarily agree with a lot of the stuff i read there, but i'd much rather have my ideas challenged than just read stuff that i know i'm going to agree with. what's the point of that?
