Thinking about it though, it's not hard to imagine him as a No.6 batsman who can bowl competently. He would have to develop into either a strike bowler who took wickets regularly, or a miserly rhythm bowler who tied down one end completely.

And therein lies the huge problem. As a captian I think he's the best England have had in a long, long time but the lack of form with the bat places extra pressure on KP and Bell.

Same thing happened to Botham and Gower in the 1980's. They received the captaincy and their game suffered. They were relived of the captaincy and their game prospered.
