It is a terrible shame if he does go, and we will regret it next year when we (as we did in 2006-7) realise what a fantastic captain he has been, and how absolutely unlucky (when viewed against Ponting, Jayawardene or even Smith) he has been with injuries to / loss of form of vital parts (especially the bowling) of that side that from the 2003-2005 was the best in the world.
Hopefully England will identify his obvious talents and get him in as close to a non-playing captain role as they can.
Still, he wont be remembered for this series when it comes down to it, he will be remembered for getting Ponting to blink first during that glorious 2005 series.
