When I was a littlun my dad had an allotment and we used to go with him in some Sundays to help out.
One time he was trying to move a half full barrel of water next to his shed and as he was moving it there was this horrible screaming sound.
We looked down and there was what looked like a massive rat with a hairy, segmented tail. It was half crushed by the barrel.
Turned out that it was a coypu, probably escaped from either Whipsnade Zoo or Woburn Wild Animal Kingdom, both of which were nearby.
We used to regularly see muntjac deer and wallabies in the local fields and I once saw a very small deer, either a muntjac or a dik dik walking down my street.
Coypu are also called nutria and they make nice fur things out of them in Canada, where they are a pest
