Hardcore Speaker Porn

I'd still take The End's rig over the MoS's one anyday.

Aba Shanti's rig still sounds more visceral and downright suited to dub mind.
:)

Agreed on The End......You can stand right next to the speakers with no ear ringing the next day.

Saw Aba-Shanti at Univ. of Dub at Chrimbo......I have to say, I preferred Iration's set up. Sounded crisper to me.

Yep, but much smaller space though. I guess one of the impressive things about the MoS one was that it worked so well in such a large room, which is so much harder to do.

re: twilo - I think it's long gone now? Didn't it go when the city went "all out" on Gatien? I always wanted to go the original Sound Factory... Angel Moraes' track "Welcome to the Factory" is still an all time favourite of mine. Hey ho, digressing.

And those early days of the Valve rig, particularly before every local authority put the noise limiters on after complaints from the neighbouring star systems, were absolutely incredible. The walls of Mass used to literally move, with the crowd - earplugs wedged firmly in and praying - used to be propelled around the dancefloor by ribcracking waves of bass. Speakers as a sensation...

:)

Whaaat  do they have to play it quietly now? Damn. I've been meaning to go check it again for some time, after experiencing one of those madness mass nights. They were fucking brilliant

They haven't been able to play at full volume for a fair old while ime. None of the big outdoor festivals could let them play anywhere near full volume and nearly all the London authorities wouldn't let them cut loose in any way.

IIRC in recent times Valve have only been able to turn the wick up in very few areas - I think the Stratford Rex was one of the few venues that would allow them to go past '5' on the dial. Too often I've heard that mighty rig sounding subdued and a little murky...

Damn, that's a real arse :(. As far as I'm concerned, provided they issue warnings @ the door about noise levels, & issue earplugs, they should be allowed to make whatever noise they like (provided neighbours not disturbed etc.)... goddamn interfering government.

Truth is though - how many neighbourhoods, particularly in London, have got a vault-like properly soundproofed venues that can stop the noise from a rig like Valve carrying? That thing used to set off car alarms in neighbouring postcodes through vibrations alone.

Fun while it lasted though...

Can't imagine it did many favours for the structural integrity of the buildings either!

I was really worried when I went to Tribe of Munt not so long ago, that the whole building was going to collapse on top of us (the building was already in a bad way) and also that i was going to implode because of the power of them speakers!

Someone fell through the roof at a recent party. Adds a new danger to the free party scene - being hit by falling ravers.

IIRC Leftfield once had a gig stopped halfway through becuase their PA was making chunks of plaster fall from the ceiling onto the crowd :D

Nothing, and I mean nothing, sounds better for dance music than this:

Dance_Stack.jpg

Funktion One Dance Stack

Have to say that this.....

dsc005001qu.jpg

sounds better, the dance stack is fine for smaller rooms but when you want to rip peoples heads off at 200 yards..a big stack of Funktion 218`s with Res 9`s on top...

Or if you want REAL SUB BASS...stick one of these..

InfraHorn-Double.jpg

in front of 2 Infrabass...........

.p.

They built some huge towerblock sized speakers along the north/south Korean border to pump out propaganda. Can't find any decent pictures of them up and running but here's a shot of a couple of chaps packing down

A rig we had in the Aardvark in Birmingham blasted a hole in some wet plaster by the morning. :D

I got banned from djing at certain club because I cranked up the amp so much that the speakers went up in flames.....oops..:D

This is the daddy of all ghettoblasters, the Panasonic RX-5350, rare and beautiful it appeared briefly in 1983 sporting 8" speakers and needing 10 D batterys to power it up, god couldnt make shoulders big enough to carry this one for long. ..hehe

Fuck me sidways...

Looks like a propper set-up too, not like those short-throw front-loaders the Frenchys love so much. Look well impressive but you've gotta stick your head in the fucker to hear the bass.

jesus. what is up with d'n'b djs aswell, all this double dropping nonsense. it both sounds crap and ruins soundsystems.

oh yeah, and I played on that 96k rig. it was indeed nice to put it mildly.

although the linkup at this years uktek was bigger.

basically the link up was so big it was hard to get in one picture, also these pics weren't so good, so these are two pictures catching each side.

shame about the 95% crap predictable techno, good about the 5% rowland the bastard (I think) tearing shit up with his 2 hour set of hard industrial jacking techno. :D
