What's to like about them?acid priest said:Hard-Fi and Maximo Park are the best guitar bands to emerge in the last year. Fact.![]()

Do I get a prize?

Maybe the fact that they piss consummately all over Jet, Kings Of Leon, The Stills, The Shins, The Shits and every other guitar band to emerge in the two or three years previous to them in terms of passion, songs and presence is a good start...?Orang Utan said:What's to like about them?

Funny that, as when I first heard both of them it struck me how unlike everything else currently around they sounded. And as for retro, I don't see it myself. Kings Of Leon are retro whereas MP and HF are pop classicists. It's a different thing.Orang Utan said:How come they just sound like all the other retro shitey wannabes to me then?
Horrible vocals, unmemorable tunes or hook and guitars that sound like so many other guitars - dull dull dull dull

His music was not "depressing"
Do you mean JH was like alcohol? Or that he was depressive?Well that's clearly not the case, is it? So not a good analogy.poului said:really, that's like saying Jamie Cullum is the best jazz musician of the last 20 years just because he's better than Kenny G.

You're suggesting that pap requires a marginal amount of talent to produce?tarannau said:Marginally talented guitar pap-pop

They sound like they've been listening to a lot of Clash records. I'm sure there are a few bands out there (maybe GYBE/Mogwai/Sigur Ros but even they have retro elements) but I cannot think of one genuinely inventive guitar band at the mo. They make the same old sounds with their instruments, so ALL guitar bands are retro really, cos it's a retro instrument.acid priest said:Funny that, as when I first heard both of them it struck me how unlike everything else currently around they sounded.
