ok.. hopefully my last question on this thread... what is the cache on a hard drive?

I'm looking at a Lacie and a Seagate one at the moment, one has 2MB cache the other 8MB cache. What is it and is it better to have lower or higher?

More/higher is better. The cache of a hard disk is memory used to minimise the number of read and writes to the actual hard drive (sorta).
