Harbhajan suspended

Which I discovered when I viewed the link. The news I heard neglected to mention that fact. That and idleness contributed to me looking a dick. As usual.

Dont feel too bad,i am an aussie and i didnt know that till it was mentioned in our press 4 days ago.
BTW just heard on our 6am news that the Indian Cricket Board have called for Bucknoors sacking, tbh i can see their point

I haven't watched cricket since the time we won the ashes. Then only the odd bit here and there. Same as every other sport really.

He did not walk when he knew he adged it, so he is as far as the once expected spirit of the game a cheat
he deserves to be called a lot worse and banned, not Mr Singh

You are not wrong. I can understand people not walking when they are lbw, but when they dont walk when they know they have edged it... they should be publicly shamed.

Gilchrist is almost unique in the modern test world as a walker.

Hogg has been charged with making an offensive remark

On it goes:

Australia's Brad Hogg has been charged with making an offensive remark to India's Anil Kumble and Mahendra Dhoni as the Sydney Test fallout continues.

India's Harbhajan Singh has appealed against his three-match ban for making a racist comment to Andrew Symonds.

Now Hogg has been charged with an offence which also falls into category three in the players' code of conduct.

 More dignity in the 1990 Argentina West Germany final.

It will be interesting to see how they handle this - ideally, they will turn it and Harbajan's away and get on with the game.

Also, a good article by Tim de Lisle about sledging and why it should be got rid of (occasional amusement aside). He does miss the point somewhat further on in the piece, though:

And silence is no problem at all. Curtly Ambrose didn't sledge, and people loved watching him.

Did he need to? :D

An entirley correct article from 'aggers'

Ricky Ponting’s men have trampled all over the spirit of cricket by offering the lame excuse that they are "hard". In their world, deliberately conning the umpire is part and parcel of the game: “It’s his decision," they offer as a cop-out.

[...]

This Australia team plays the game to win – there’s nothing wrong in that – but it has negated its responsibility to those who watch it and, more importantly, the next generation of cricketers who will inherit the battered sprit of cricket that Ponting’s team leaves in its trail.

[...]

They can give it, but can’t take it.

Brian Lara was a walker. He said that he couldn't bear the idea of staying out there when he knew he was out. A selfish cricketer in many ways, but this was a big plus.

This is something that even parts of the Australian press have come to realise. Certainly I cant remember a team as hated as this Australian side is in recent cricket history, and a large reason for that is the attitude of Ponting - witness the glee when he lost it at Trent Bridge.

The Australian team are such a graceless bunch of unsportsmanlike cunts that they deserve all the shite they're receiving. Sledging ain't funny when it's taken to extremes like that, nor is it reasonable to spend the best part of a day trying to wind a player up and then reacting in mock horror and complaining vigorously when a slightly lame 'monkey' insult comes back after much provocation.

It's pathetic - the Australians have been angling at making a 'reverse racism' complaint for some time and they've had their excuse. Fuck them and their petty points scoring nonsense.

No one has come out of this with an ounce of credit so far. The Australians, the Indians, the umpires, the ICC have all acted for short term expediency and with zero interest in the game.

but that doesnt stop him appealing for catches behind the wicket when he knows the batsman hasnt hit it. i admire his honesty in walking, but maybe he should have the same standards when appealing.

A poll conducted by the Age newspaper here(not a Murdoch one so its creditable)found that out of 2000 people surveyed,76% said the cricket team were bullys and should shut up and just play cricket:cool:
