Hamlet v Horsham

Just thought someone should start a thread!
5-2 with 2 beauts from Luke! A masterclass from Danny. Sunshine. 3 points. And we're in the playoffs after a somewhat average start to the season.
Good crowd too!
That first goal from Luke was just a masterpiece I cannot believe how often he manages to carve himself an opportunity from those positions and how clinical he is, he’s carried his form into this season and then some!

Couldnt make it today but really enjoyed listening to that on the commentary.

Sounds like we got lucky with their disallowed second goal but a fast start and the goals just kept coming.

What was the defence? I couldn't work it out from the comms.

(Also on the comms, really appreciate the efforts of the team but my feed faded every 10 mins or so and needed restarting, maybe just my signal but I think that happened the last time I listened as well)

Definitely the best and most enjoyable game for a long time. It made a difference having the A team out and in the familar positons. I think the only change would be German starting and Binnom Williams and Hudson fighting for the left back slot. Spoke to German after the end and he said he is a week or so away from a return. Also liked the look of Lynch when he came on. Good alternative to Mills with a busy period coming up.

An excellent first half aided and abetted by Horsham making the type of defensive errors that have been our undoing at times, capped by two good finishes from Mills.

Second half Horsham showed their quality, fuelled by a triple change at half-time including Chris Dickson who seems to cause us out sized problems whenever we cross paths with him, but two moments of magic from Wanadio, including his first which will take some beating for goal of the season, made sure it didn’t get too twitchy.

The benefit of being able to get specialist players in their natural positions was obvious - Ramsey and Hudson both played well, coping with good attacking players whilst also getting forward on both flanks, Wynter sitting in front of the back four, and Scott in behind the front three all made a big difference.

A very good performance if not a perfect one, with the bar now set for this squad. If we can get German back over the next couple of games we might even get that elusive clean sheet sooner rather than later.

Agreed re German, but JB was excellent today, a more than capable CB who’s great on the ball. Would happily see him retain his place in the coming games. Spoke to him afterwards and he seemed to enjoy playing there too.

First half was the best I've seen Dulwich play in many many seasons. Wynter, Hand and Scott in the centre looked very in control, were the first to every ball and played some lovely positive football. Wanadio didn't seem to get as much of the ball in the first 45, but when he did he made it count. The cross ball to AJ for the first (or second, can't quite remember there were so many!) goal was glorious.

Second half we switched off for a while. I really rate JBW but he had a few slip ups, one of which led directly to their first goal, and could have led to more. Its a shame as he'd had a really decent first half whilst playing out of position. I've not seen Germain yet but suring up our defense will be really important if we want to seriously challenge for playoff spots.

Horsham's set up didn't really seem to work first half, but their wingbacks proved much more tricky for the first part of the second half. Couldn't work out if it was because of the substitutions or our sluggishness (probably both tbh) but Ola Ogunwamide punished us.

Two more bits of absolute magic from Wanadio towards the end kept the positive energy. The first, from the right of the box after Lorenzo had battled fort the ball. I've no idea how he got through the three players in front of him, will have to watch the highlights but suddenly the ball was in the net.

Really exciting and enjoyable game. Just sad there are no more home games until 12th!

Didn't even mention the new players! All of whom seemed very solid. Hope Oli Lynch gets a bit more time in the future. Looked promising.

Considering it’s not his natural position, thought Binnom-Williams did well - some lovely close turns away from attackers, and better distribution than we normally see from centre back.

Can’t help thinking his physical condition works against him in the latter stages of games. It’s something he often uses to his advantage - not many players get the better of him shoulder to shoulder - but any errors he does make seem to come as the game goes on, particularly against fresh subs or genuine pace.

If he could keep up the standard he’s clearly capable of for 90 minutes, he could be formidable at centre back longer term.

Hope Oli Lynch gets a bit more time in the future. Looked promising.
Thought Lynch did okay when he came on - made his presence felt and was winning the ball in the air, even if his timing wasn’t always spot on. Sure that’s something that will come with more minutes.

Hopefully Collins responds to the challenge that Lynch coming in obviously poses - unless he’s been carrying an injury, could be an early crossroads moment for him.

Hamlet gave a consummate first half performance to lead 3-0 at the break against a side that hadn't conceded a goal in their previous 3 games. Whilst I never expected a similar second half against opponents of Horsham's quality, I did find it a bit of a worry how swiftly we lost the initiative after half time, and the catalyst for that was JBW's sloppy play to give away their first goal immediately after Horsham had made a triple substitution. One substitute won the ball, the second carried it deep into our box, the third stuck it in our net. It needed two moments of sheer wizardry from Wanadio to score out of absolutely nowhere, and a rather lucky looking decision to disallow another Horsham goal, to keep them at arms length after that.

I was a big fan of JBW last season, but he just doesn't look as sharp right now. On Saturday he appeared to have been possessed by the ghost of Ravan Constable. I was in line with our back four during the first half, and even then he took a couple of needless risks with no one to protect his back without actually coming unstuck, rolling the ball under his foot and sidestepping forwards, looking around for different passing options while opponents closed him down instead of just playing a quick simple pass. Their first goal doesn't look any less excruciating on video than it did at the time. He dallies on the ball to the left of the halfway line before playing a one-two with Hand, who has little option but to pass back to him. Then, instead of launching one of his booming diagonal passes out to the opposite flank, he just knocks a casual short pass inside to Wynter's feet when he must be able to see he's got a marker right on top of him. Wynter had his pocket picked and JBW lost a foot race against an opponent who turns 40 before the end of the year, despite having a head start. Our keeper might have had a better chance facing a firing squad.

Having said all that, I don't want to sound too critical. There were a lot of changes with players returning from injury after a fortnight without a game. People like Ramsay, Wynter and Hudson can't be match sharp yet, having barely played all season. Millsy scored twice without even needing to use his rather battered looking head! Lynch looks to have a fair presence for an 18/19 year old, and the first thing he did within seconds of coming on was to "hang in the air" to win a header, just like the man he replaced. Our management got the tactics and selection right from the players available, and ultimately it was a great win against visitors who were rightly among the pre-season title favourites. Hopefully we'll be even stronger when Sam German and Ross Marshall are back again.
