Rachamim, I grew up among Yiddish speakers. Only an academic would use the word in any other sense than to mean "bastard", and to mean it in a derogatory sense, your semantic wriggling notwithstanding.

I do not know whether or not you are familiar with Yiddish but if you were, or rather with Yiddish speaking Charedim, you would not use the word in that sense at all. I imagine, having some in my own family, that Yiddish speaking criminals might use the word in that sense, they do corrupt words in amazing ways, but it is an important distinction. After all, the word denotes and entire subset of Halacha (Jewish Jurisprudence).
