ermm, I think you'll find that in most societies (especially in the west, and ultra-especially the UK) with strong nationalist/patriot traditions, those wrapping themselves in the biggest flags are the w/c, whilst those leading the fight against all that - for what it's worth - are yer cosmopolitan m/c interleck-shul types.

I think you'll find that while you're (IMHO) INCREDIBLY accurate about the vanguardism of the middle classes, that you've entirely missed the boat in terms of jingoistic nationalism.

Well, leaving him aside as I don't know the lad, the general point stands. Hamas came to power on dealing with social issues in the community in a less corrupt fashion than fatah rather than their rhetoric about Israel by all accounts.

"Hearts and minds" being a better, more effective policy than graft and intimidation.
