Show me a capitalist and I'll show you a bloodsucker - Malcolm X

Sshh . . .

I have heard rumour that there is gonna be some kinda anti-capitalist demonstration or stop-the-city happening to do with the credit crunch on Halloween evening. Word on the street is if you hang around the Aneurin Bevan Statue at 5 pm you may be in a very good position to get involved with the action: the statue is on Queen Street near Bradford and Bingley Bank.

radical trick-or-treating? exorcising the demonic power of the banks? dancing on the grave of capitalism? a meeting of freaks and militants? a manic street meeting? people's theatre? symbolic executions? mind-bombs? free food and music and a party? a raggle taggle working class army determined to kick in the door to eden and storm the winter palace of capital? Keep your ears open for rumours - but remember: walls have ears, and ears have walls . . .

I keep my ear very close to the ground.

The capitalists will even try and sell you the rope to hang yourself - we're gonna hand the rope back: Nightmare on Wall Street. Let this post be a call to arms, oh comrades!

Thanks for the heads up. Do you know any more details of this? Do you happen to know who the organisers are? I am a student journalist interested in getting some info for an internal publication attached to my course.

Many thanks.

Gosh, I was having a cup of tea on the hayes, and an ex-army guy told me he had heard a rumour that a group of veterans just got back from Iraq are gonna ransack the banks and corporate stores in Cardiff on Halloween. Apparently they got back from Iraq politicised determined to turn their guns on the real enemy of working class people - THE RICH!

“Drag pianos out into the streets!
Drums with boat hooks
from windows hang!
Hammer pianos,
bang on the bellowing drum.
Let there be crashes,
let there be thunder -

Enough of half penny truths!
Old trash from your hearts erase!
Streets for paint-brushes we’ll use,
our palettes - squares with their wide open space.
Revolution’s days have yet to be sung by the thousand year book of time.
Into the streets, the crowds among,
futurists,
drummers,
masters of rhyme!”
- Mayakovsky, 1918

Whilst it's very interesting and maybe even a bit fun in Udo's imagination, I wouldn't base any news stories around its products, mate.

Are we up for it? Are we up to it?

Sounds like a resounding "no" and "no" from Comrade Armchair. :D

But some of us are up for a 'lil anti-capitalist trick or treating . . .

What if the rotting corpses of Reclaim The Streets, The Liverpool Dockers Dispute, the numerous Anti-Roads Protests, arose to celebrate the death of capitalism, with a Ghoulish, Trick or Treat, Family Friendly, Sambista, Mass Street Party?

What if the Four Horse-Folk of the Anti-Capitalist Apocalypse, Anarchist, Communist, Ecowarrior, Revolution, rode out to join in the chaotic mayhem fun?

What if . . .

If comrade armchair ever were to get into a bit of naughty trick or treating I can guarantee he'd never post about it on a public message board.;)

I heard that the masses have finally tired of Black et al, after increased unemployment and the odd high profile redundancy. Talk is that various disparate factions like the socialists and firefighters have formed an unlikely alliance that just might work. There's the militant lot too - someone I spoke to said they had a big demo planned for the market. I'm not sure if any of this is true but I also heard that it's going to deliberately kick off outside the Town Hall, which given the circumstances you might think would trigger a disproportionate response from the authorities.

Word on the street is this freedom train is picking up speed. Get down to the station of armed love on Friday 31st October, according to the timetable this freight is setting off at 5 pm . . .

To be honest, I get the vibe that this is gonna be more of a moving street festival than armed insurrection.

In a sense, Hallowe'en is a highly appropriate time for a demonstration of this type. In old folklore, All Hallows Eve was a time when the doors or veils of separation between the different worlds - Earth, Heaven, Hell & Fairie were either opened or blurred.

On Friday 31st October, for a brief moment a merrie band of revolting peasants will simultaneously be in this world of decaying, rotting capitalism while also getting an intimation of another future world symbolised by the black flag of individual autonomy and personal freedom, and the red flag of the workers state and grassroots democracy.

NIGHTMARE ON WALL STREET - STARRING FREDDIE MAC "KRUEGER"!

HALLOWE'EN PROTEST - BAIL OUT PEOPLE NOT BANKS

The free market is crumbling, yet the ghosts of the past are desperate to prop up the system. Billions of pounds of our money has been diverted to the vampires of the banking system, who are sucking our wallets dry.

After nationalising the banks we've continued to see home repossessions spiral. In Wales, court actions against late mortgage payers have tripled in the past year. Every single hour, four people in Wales are told they will lose their house. Not many of the bankers will be losing their luxury castles with velvet-coated coffins, while ordinary workers feel the bite.

On Halloween 2008, we will be protesting against the government's so called nationalisations of banks - nationalisations that are only in the interests of the rich. They think that we're too stupid to realise what's going on, that we're a bunch of zombies who will quietly pay for the crisis which they have created.

Come along on the Friday 31st of October and demand that nationalisation of banks should mean nationalisation in our interests. If we own the banks, why don't we get a say in what happens to our money? Giving billions of pounds to the same people who drove the economy into the crypt makes about as much sense as asking the Wolf Man to safely herd sheep.

We will assemble at 5pm at the Aneurin Bevan statue on Queen Street, right by Bradford and Bingley. We will then have a torch-lit march from bank to bank, exorcising the ghouls and ghosts of the free market and stamping our claim on our banks!

Many people will be coming in fancy dress, though that's not essential. There'll also be music and street art in abundance, please bring drums, pots, whistles or anything else to add to the cacophony!

END HOUSE REPOSSESSIONS NOW!

What is there in it for me as I don't fit in to any of your 'groups'.

What is there in it for me as I don't fit in to any of your 'groups'.

every single working class person is gonna be effected by the bail-out to the banks as the money will most likely be paid for in cuts in public services (rather than taxing the rich). The political elite in Britain want working class people to pay for the crisis caused by their mismanagement of the economy while they continue to lead a lavish lifestyle. This protest aims to say that "WE won't pay for THEIR crisis".

Since the government gave billions to the banks, but refusing to place them under public control, these banks have sharply escalated house repossessions, agressively driving people out of their homes. (and let's not forget that the policy of successive governments in the last 30 years has been anti-council and social housing)

At the same time as the credit crunch, ordinary people face attempts to drive down wages (the wage freeze being imposed on the public sector - if they get away with it - will be the first stage of driving down wages for people who work in the private sector), rising food and energy prices from corporations that are raking in record profits.

Welfare reform may also impact on you. If due to the recession you lose your job you will find yourself facing the most draconian benefit system in Europe, where if you are unemployed over a year you will be forced onto "workfare". If you are in illhealth, welfare reform is also gonna make your life a misery.

Government ministers are also talking about people who live in council houses should be evicted if they are deemed not to be adequately searching for work, and other right wing nonsense.

In short thousands face losing their jobs, their homes, and a reduction in living standards.

That's what this protest is about.
