It's very hard to do that song wrong I think. I liked Wainright's version, I have no problems with that Diane Vickers version, I'm even completely apathetic towards el divo but katherine jenkins is bloody awful. i clicked another link on the youtube and her version of nessun dorma was perfectly passable, which surprised me because i would have imagined she'd not be up to the task. but hallelujah, nope.

i disagree, i think it's mostly done badly. it needs to be sung with a certain jaded quality, and with some space and subtlety. I love the Cale version, Buckley fucking murdered it.

I disagree, though I don;t think JB's was great. I think he did it in a way which concentrated on trying to form a musical accompanyment to the lyrics and that made it work for me.

Once a song has been released it's fair game, if you don't like a particular version then don't listen to it, surely? Getting worked up/annoyed/angry/whatever by someone singing it seems a tad odd to me...

The Buckley one gives it some feeling, even if it is ever so earnest and has now been co-opted by everyone on earth. It's his Smells like Teen Spirit, basically.
