Half-Life 2: Episode One

The price of this episode kind of gives lie to all that bollocks they talk about how the game has to be so expensive to cover production costs. HL2 took 6 years and cost £35, this took 1 year and cost £15.

Plus they already had the engine and all the character models, its not like they were making it from scratch and they had Episode Two on the go at the same time.

Mine crashed the first two times, updated the drivers, worked fine.

So whaddya think? I'm still on the first level and it's ok but I put it down yesterday and haven't really missed playing it tbh. Until STALKER comes out I don't really think any game will be floating my boat that much.

Playing Rogue Trooper atm, which is ok but far too easy and you don't really need to deploy mines or faff around with making a sentry out of his rifle etc etc, you can just walk through the levels blasting stuff, it's a shame as the 2000AD licences are ripe gaming material.

Gonna try Rise of Legends and Hitman: Blood Money demos to see if they're worth a punt.

@BMD, haven't played it yet (and given that I got New Super Mario Bros yesterday and Animal Crossing Wild World today not sure if I'll get a chance this week to play!

As for Rogue Trooper, yeah played that last month. Lots of nice sniper work, but other than that, a bit 1998.

Yeah, I was reading about it in PC Gamer and their offices are in Chernobyl, obviously they must be safe but even so rather them than me. The game sounds unbelievably good and I thought it would never make it to the finish post but it looks like it'll be out very soon.

Yeah, 1998 is a pretty accurate summary of it. I was quite disappointed as it had the potential for a great game, still, they might bring out a better RT game, we'll have to wait and see.

I've found it's quicker to type the text, highlight it, then press the insert link button to paste the link into.


Like this i.e. typed first then the hyperlink pasted into the pop up that appears when you click the insert link button.

So anyway (start a STALKER thread dammit and stop derailing this one! ) I sorted the drivers, booted up and started playing. It picked some quite high settings for my machine which was a nice surprise! It looked pretty amazing compared to HL2, I saw the dog dig (what I think is) me out of some rubble and thought "excellent stuff, this looks like a good beginning!". It then crashed.

It's a fucker to install - g/f installed it on her lappy - graphic problems, sound problems, I updated all the drivers but it's still playing up - gonna leave till the weekend to have a good look at it.

turn yer res down

check sound settings are fairly basic(i.e. no 5.1 surround etc)

and give it a whirl. then gradually increase settings until it hangs again. there are some issues with nvidia cards that are being addressed but dunno if it also affects your card

mine wont run at the ful res 1600x1200 and i run at 1200xsummit and its fine. but bump it up to 1600 and it hangs.

i also have to disable one of my sli cards to get it to work.
