Hair by Fairy in Covent Garden

yep, have just looked at their price list, wash and cut £13 blow dry for long hair £30. its just about the same as my last cut actually and still quite reasonable

I had my hair cut there today. £13 for a better cut than I usually pay £40 for. Excellent, will be going back.

Just a brief bump to echo exactly what missfran said. Had a cracking haircut in there today - didn't want anything too extreme and they did exactly what I asked for. Will defo be going back - it's as good a haircut as I normally pay at least £35 for :)

Thanks for this nipsla. Am unemployed at the moment but desperate for a haircut so am going to follow your lead. Ta :)

A brief bump!? I was all ready with some sort of "Who dragged the cat back in?" sort of welcoming joke only to find that this thread is three years old.

Glad you liked the hairdo :)

Why don't you go and get a really good hair cut, potentially for free if you can blag it at Vidal Sassoon academy. It WILL take all morning or afternoon but if you're not in a rush, it's a really, really good deal.

The last time I went I had my hair cut by Vidal Baboon's Northern Creative Director who was demonstrating to Vidal head honcho's their proposed looks for Autumn 2010...I've never had a bad cut or colour from them. I'm on their colouring model book now which means free colouring for as long as I want to go to Vidal.

I think if you phone up they'll be happy to say in what publications you can find the free voucher thingy.

:hmm:
Am i the only one who has only ever had really bad, traumatic experiences in Hairy by Fairy?!

Well, me, my sister and a friend who i recommended the place to.
I've been there quite a few times, tempted by the cheap price. The staff are always SO unbelieveably rude and unfriendly. The guy on reception just grunts at you and points, expecting you to know exactly what you're meant to be doing. The hairdressers can normally speak very little english and don't understand what you ask them to do. My friend asked for a trim and they hacked half her hair off. She had to pay for a decent cut somewhere else straight afterwards, it was so bad. She left the place in tears.
Once when i went, reception guy grunted and pointed me in the direction of a hairdresser, who looked at me, and then said very loudly to the hairdresser standing next to him 'i don't want her' Nice.

I'm glad no one else seems on urban seems to have had similar experiences, but it does seem kind of odd it's only awful for me and people i know

Finally made it to Hair by Fairy today. I was nervous but it was great. Rocked up at 4pm and was out by 4.30pm with a nice Italian girl having done exactly what I asked. Trauma free and a bargainous £13

I seldom got exactly what I asked for when I went in there, but I always got something a bit better! Language barrier and all that. But some of my favourite cuts have been from there. God, I actually used it when it was in Kensington Market - makes me feel old.

It's a good place to go if you want something adventurous because they will go for it (sometimes your average hairdressers won't quite dare to do what you'd like). It might not be the place for a trim or something simple because they could go a bit OTT.

I'm thinking of going back there for the first time in over a decade, actually, as it's the only place I can think of where I might affordably get the sort of seriously asymmetric cut I'm after at an affordable price, but I will want to find a picture of something similar first so I don't leave with a mohawk. ;)

I don't recall them being especially rude, but I know they often spoke very little English.

aye - they are ace. you go in, wait 5 mins, then they cut your hair in the exact style you would like, within ten mins... either a minute trim or a big change. (i've had both). none of the chit chat shit and then charge you only a little over ten pounds. i suppose it could go wrong but thus far i've not known it to. my only concern has been that the hairdresser does not see your hair dry, only wet - so i had concerns that they would not fully get what you want. but like i say - so far so good. and i've been going there for years now.

Well, I think I'm going to them early next week with this pic:

and letting em loose to do something along those lines.

Nah they will dry it, but they just rough dry it, no straightening or pampering. :D

I've had some awesome haircuts there, and some that were a bit meh, but they are much, much better then Mr Toppers, who I mistakenly tried once.

That is good hair

Sadly, I can not haz... the guy seemed not at all certain about going for a full-on undercut, so I decided to go with his wisdom. He's cut the one side quite short and sculpted and undercut the back nicely, though... and he was right, my hair doesn't really want to part in the right place to do the undercut at the side. I always thought my parting was pretty flexible, but if it were shaved at the side, the hair would just want to flop over the shaved bit. Bummer, cos I was quite looking forward to doing something a bit more radical.

Spotted a lady on the tube with a nice cut I could do next time though... just need to find a pic of something similar now!

PS - yes, I made the 'Mr Topper' mistake once. Cut my cropped hair into something like a schoolboy in the 80s would have - just far too blunt and unfeminine.

Aww that's a shame Cloo....maybe take a morning off and go to Vidal Sassoon? :) And pics on the ugly mug thread of new do anyway please! ;)

They do the BEST cuts there, I wish I was a student again, with free time on my hands to devote 3 hours to a haircut.:D

Off to Hair by Fairy next thursday before my holiday....just a trim, not a lot there to cut.
