Hackney central trelawney estate

Hi,
I am thinking of moving in to a property close to Hackney Central - Trelawney estate as I was hoping for as much information as possible about the estate. I have walked around the estate in the day and it seem quite nice, it's all very open with no small dark alleys, and seem more of a through fare from the big Tesco across the road. I realise Havkney as a whole is improving, I just wondered what the area was like at night, and if the estate turn into a no go zone.

Any information or advise on the area would be really appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

I know it well but have never lived there. I have used it as a cut through, day and night for years without problem. There have been some nasty incidents there over the years but I wouldn't say that those were specific to that estate IYSWIM?

It's not as dense as some other estates and very well lit, loads of foot traffic too from and to Morning Lane. It definately is not a 'no go' zone, not by any stretch of the imagination.

Thank you for the information. Like I said it did seem quite nice as estates go, and the area seemed to have a couple of coffee shops on morning lane. I also read there was a new fashion hub and arches under the overground line being changed into a shopping area.

I would be moving into a tower block, I guess that is my biggest concern as the lifts and entrance via the main door is not the best.

I don't live in that part of Hackney but I know it has had a bit of a bad reputation. There were problems there during the riots a couple of years ago.

I have got the bus to Hackney Wick in Morning Lane many times over the past years and never seen anything untoward going on though and the estate itself looks well kept. I noticed recently they are building some new flats nearby and the area is looking better. It's in Hackney central so very handy for transport, buses and the overground. Hackney Picturehouse is a great cinema.
There are interesting places, parks etc not far away.

Hackney is the best borough in London :)

I must say it did seem nice in the day, I wonder what it is like past 10pm - walking home after several drinks though. The lifts do seem a little intimidating, although I guess you get used to them in time.

can't remember what goes here
I know someone who moved into a block near there and it did feel a bit dodge. The communal entrance was totally unsecured and you could smell crack being smoked on the stairs. I think this is normal for any London council block without proper security though, and sometimes with too. Other friends living in similar blocks elsewhere don't seem particularly worried by it, they and the crackheads just coexist. I have to say I didn't like the area, but I don't live there and only visited a couple of times.

Thanks for the info, maybe I should give it a miss if the tower blocks are full of crackheads on the stairs - I do not think I could deal with all that after work each day.

Can you just talk to the neighbours and/or visit in the evening to see for yourself?

Yeah I will have a look around late one night, and try to chat to some neighbours. As I said the estate looks ok - for an estate. It's more the fact we have to go up and down in the lift and the communal entrance is not secure, no cameras etc.

Kier, just seen your other thread re-home exchanging. Is the flat in Hackney to do with that?

I live in one of the tower blocks in Trelawney Estate and its over the 5th floor. To be brutally honest from a working professionals point of view who has lived in the tower block for over 10 years, I have been privy to have seen it all. When I first moved in to my flat there were the typical issues you would associate with estates in Hackney but not on the scale portrayed in the media. Over the last ten years the change has been phenomenal. My neighbours and people on the estate have always been genuinely nice. Add that to the new developments such as the picture house as well as the Broadway market at a mere five minute walking distance, you have a communal modern and interactive London. The communal areas of the flats are well maintained every morning and I always greet the care takers for a doing a fine job. The lifts have recently been replaced and breakdown on average twice a year but there are 2 lifts and it is rear they both breakdown. The location is practically central London as I walk to Oxford st in 35 mins. Overall I'm quite happy with my tower block with friendly neighbours, perfect transport links, park on the doorstep residence.

Also, there are no crackheads on the staircases milling around
