Guns of Brixton

Hiya guinnessdrinker
So there isnt a housing problem in Brixton due to affluent middle class peeps buying houses, if this touches a raw nerve then so be it, it just shows the effects of the disparity of income and mobility regardless of whether I live in London or not, its usually best to say what you think rather than shut up

housing problems are not specific to brixton but everywhere in london.

oh. I thought they did a good job of questioning received opinion and added a great deal to the Brixton forum. Shows how history can be reworked eh?!

That comment doesn't necessarily negate mine in any way, although the 'reworked' history jibe is another blatant cheg stirring/blatant misrepresentation comment. It's a shame what happened, but I don't think that you can argue that the Brixton boards are a lot less argumentative and better tempered than they were before, which was my point. No more, no less.

Still, never let a bit of comprehension and accuracy get in the way of yet another attempt at a chegrimandi wind up. I'll expect you'll call me humourless now, but I'll just have to hold my sides in for your next ever-so-predictable stirring attempt. How long are you going to bleat about the past?

it was a lighthearted reference to 3 banned posters that are part and parcel of the history of the brixton boards. You can't deny that. I wasn't aware they were unmentionable.

You & wannabe board cop dub jumped in saying I was trying to stir things up - as seems to be the cry now whenever any poster has the temerity to post anything off message. It's a shame, but thats the way it seems to be.

Oh fuck off cheg. I wasn't aware that there was any 'on' message that all of us here are meant to be adhering to (apparently).

I don't have a problem with people posting their opinions. In fact the more the merrier for the most part. It's more that I dislike someone continually posting the same half baked assertions ('it's awful... you guys can't take a joke... quaff... you can't deal with people being off message') with frustrating regularity. What's the point of coming back here mainly to whine about the past - to try and get people to agree with you and cause a little stir? Or just because you enjoy seeing your words on an internet forum?

I don't get it.

I think most of the inflation is down to property speculators, people who buy-to-let, and in some parts of the country, second-home owners. We're going to end up as a nation of landlords and tenants, with a massive gulf between the two...
spot on....back to the feudal system

Why do these threads always degenerate into slanging matches? It's childish. Get back to the original post.

I don't disgree. But if you look at the thread and particularly the preceding page, I think it's more than fair to say that I've tried to engage with the subject.

That said, there's not really much point in trying to have any kind of discussion if someone's only providing responses with the sole aim of causing a little bit of a barney. Certain comments on this thread certainly do just that - claiming something that's obviously not true and then just laughing off the inaccuracy by invoking the names of several banned posters just afterwards instead of trying to provide any support for his viewpoint/bullshit.

Still, it's as circular as you like it. I've tried to engage with any serious/honest posts throughout and it'll stay that way. It's not always possible or beneficial to turn the other cheek, particularly when the same folk continually make the same unsupported claims.

I appreciate that you've tried to address the issue. And I agree with a lot of your points of view. Please understand, this isn't aimed at you alone. It's aimed at all those pointless threads which are obviously started up by some troll, become more and more personal, take on a gladatorial nature, and end up being a competition to see who gets the last word in.

If a thread has wondered off the subject for several pages, can't a mod lock it down or something? One to one arguments can be carried out by private messaging surely, and not by filling up the boards with a lot of name-calling. Just a thought.

What rocketing property prices?

I've no intention of moving at present but at some stage, probably when I can no longer cope with three flights of stairs in my terrace house and my children have moved away, I may want to sell. I would therefore be interested in knowing more about these rocketing Brixton property prices I see mentioned on this thread. Can anyone provide any actual evidence that house prices in Brixton are going up significantly faster than the London average?

Right. Hartlepool is the place for me then. When I save enough to purchase an estate there I will be soon be wealthy due to the 38% increase in value and I can then afford to purchase a flat in Brixton!
