Guns N Roses - Chinese Democracy

And that makes it "transcend it's genre" how, exactly?

I always thought it was okay, but in terms of originality, "Appetite" always but always came across as what you'd get if Aerosmith raped Motley Crue in a back alley (or even up the back alley) and a sprog resulted.

As for "punk-tinged", attitude-wise, possibly, tune-wise, the music is all metal, creamy Les Paul cliché on cliché. :)

That wasn't what made it transcend its genre, I was just querying the 'bllads' bit of your description.

When I say transcend the genre I mean it's one of those albums which people who might listen to nothing else of that type might listen to. It's the only album of that type that might get anywhere near my top 100.

Innit november rain is by far the most up the arse song guns n roses ever did. as for the video even the dorector knows its toss. Slash in massive church/slash playing outside my garden shed on top of a mountain is the casing point!

Small point but someone was saying geffen got shafted. This is geffen's(sorry i mean interscope-geffen-am((copyright universal) current roster. http://www.geffen.com/artists/ 13million is lost down the back of the sofa in that place.

So easy to hate G'n'R  What else are you gonna do for 80's (and some of the 90's ) hair metal? Bon Jovi yes, but you couldn't use Bon Jovi for Terminator 2... When I was 13 G'n'R were a bit edgy and cool and that was good enough for me.. and now they are a Classic Rock staple... "the thing about classic rock is that its classic and it rocks"...

That's cos they're shit. Hating shit is REALLY easy.

I don't, as a rule, and don't find a great big "80's (and some of the 90's ) hair metal"-shaped hole in my life.

I think you have repressed hair metal feelings otherwise you wouldn't be shouting about it so much. Go on... pop a bit of 'sweet child' on and break out the air guitar.. you know you want to.. go on.. it's easy...

Not really, no. Tens of thousands of records, CD and mp3s here that I love very much. I just tend to survive perfectly well without macho posturing, bloated guitar solos, awful vocals and racist lyrics :)

You should try it :)

Could you give us some examples of the brilliant music that you and your missuz enjoy so we can swearily slag them off an say how shite it all is please. And then possibly submit it to the NME and see if they'll print it.

Why on earth would I want to do that, you silly boy.

I don't know. you've already been banging on about how you've got a girlfriend and loads of records and are a journalist who loves music so much they decided they couldn't even write about it any more, I just wondered if you were going to give us some more detail
