Guns N Roses - Chinese Democracy

"Transcends its genre"?
DOES IT FUCK AS LIKE!!

Genre: Heavy Metal.
Genre clichés: sex, sexism, drugs, violence, the devil, outlaw lifestyle, occasional ballads.

Six out of seven isn't bad. ;)

Sure doesn't transcend fuck-all though. :p

:confused:It's pretty much high-octane punk-tinged hard rock from start to finish.

Appetite For Destruction is a stunning album. Lies was full of awful racist/homophobic shit, Use Your Illusion I/II were both self indulgent rubbish (maybe a couple of half decent moments) and Spaghetti Incident was laughable.

But I can't wait for Chinese Democracy, should be a cracker :D

It doesn't, you know. It's absolute toss.

hahaha, so just because you don't like it, its absolute 'toss'. Ok. Get your head out of your arse for once, and realize just cause thats what you think, doesn't mean its a fact. Cause tell me, if it was such a shit album, how comes loads of people loved it? How comes gnr were so fuckin popular all over the whole world/selling out gigs where ever they went? How comes people still talk about them today? Oh, but they're all wrong and you're not i guess. Yeah okay then. /end rant. Sorry about that.

Anyhow, i couldn't give a damn about their new album thats supposed to be coming out, ive heard some of the new songs on youtube though, they're ok. Would probably buy the album if it came out having heard some of the songs. But i'm more focused on their old live stuff, cause to me they're one of the best live bands there's ever been imo, and thats why they're one of my favourite bands, or atleast, the old version of the band is.

Until I read Slashs autobiography I hadn't realised just what a good keyboard player/programmer Axl was, he may be a cock, but he's a talented one...

yeah, Axl's got a real talent with words too :(

'One In A Million'

Immigrants and faggots
They make no sense to me
They come to our country
And think they'll do as they please
Like start some mini Iran
Or spread some fucking disease
They talk so many goddamn ways
It's all greek to me

Because people are stupid and/or have nothing better to do.

Yep :D

Well, Celine Dion sells millions of records too. The 'they're popular so they must be good' argument is fucking lame :D

Oh, but they're all wrong and you're not i guess. Yeah okay then.

Glad you get it. :D

Daft twat

Pretty much sums up what I think.

I thought the whole point about "Chinese Democracy" is that it was a piss-take .... because there's no democracy in China, there's no new G'n'R album.

And in any case, G'n'R doesn't exist as a band in any real sense any more .... it's just fat Axl plus a bunch of hangers-on. If you want retro-sleaze, no-one's doing it better at the moment than Velvet Revolver.

Thats a shame about those lyrics. He also uses the N word in that song which is a shame because its a great song otherwise with a great guitar solo.

I'm willing to forgive him though, Axl is a cock at the best of times and he was clearly being very ignorant there too. I don't think he's racist really - he's just ignorantly written stuff like that because he's prone to being a mouthy egotistical dickhead.

And I spent 10 years working as a music journalist and have MUCH better taste than you.

So shove it yerself :p

I realise the latter part was irony but by virtue of your former career, you've just disqualified your opinion from having any validity in my book.
:)

If anything, it reflected America society at the time, it was 1988 remember. Also remember his guitarist was half black, and the fact they was touring with body count at the time.

No excuse this day and age thou, the fact the record even got released says alot about the late 80s.

I was just joshing (and actually I never fitted in as a journo cos I loved music, would watch the bands rather than braying loudly at the bar, that sort of thing :p )

Are you only 20 or something? The late eighties are not the dark ages mate and plenty of people called him on it at the time, it's not like no-one would even have noticed. As far as it reflects the america of the time - it'd be equally true now, as far as it goes. Which ain't far.

It's more about Axl Rose being a nob really. Even Slash was like wtf at the use of the N word because his Mother was black but obviously understood that Axl was just venting frustration at everyone and using as many offensive terms along the way (bitch, faggot, nigger, police etc etc)

Since then he's played with people like Ice-T and Bodycount and Lenny Kravitz and his personal security was a black guy too. I'm positive he's not racist. Also, he famously dueted with Elton John at the Freddie Mercury Tribute / AIDS awareness gig. I think anyone who really had a problem with gays wouldn't have done so. He is/was just a bit ignorant I think.

And that makes it "transcend it's genre" how, exactly?

I always thought it was okay, but in terms of originality, "Appetite" always but always came across as what you'd get if Aerosmith raped Motley Crue in a back alley (or even up the back alley) and a sprog resulted.

As for "punk-tinged", attitude-wise, possibly, tune-wise, the music is all metal, creamy Les Paul cliché on cliché. :)

You really shouldn't construct a reply around what you think someone has implied in their post, rather than what they've actually written. It may be "cute" to do so, but it makes you look kind of dim. :)

appetite for destruction is a toss album, i'm sorry to have to confirm...

november rain is the only decent song they ever did, i'm afraid. and that's only because of the video.
