guitarists who make the hairs on yer neck stand up

EDIT - speaking of which, I went to see Axl Rose's new Guns N' Roses the other day. One of the solo interludes had two guitarists playing a duet of Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" at each other on their great big phallic cock-sticks. Not homoerotic at all, nosiree. :D
And !

Who said Howlin' Wolf? The real guitar credit there should go to Hubert Sumlin who is apparently still alive and plucking.

Bonnie Raitt (sp!?)
aye, bonnie. But, and as much as I hate to say it, female guitarists who really fuckin rock are very few and far between. Would it be fair to say that it is still a male dominated strand of music? Although, I have noticed a damn sight more young women these days with a guitar strapped to their back...

Clapton at times, could make "time stand still"
as said on Bluesbreakers sleevenotes.
I know this as fact.

For outstanding sound and originality, Jeff Beck on 'Amused to Death'

For exquisite pingerpicking/bending/pulling techniques, Jerry Donahue on 'Beak & Claw'

Both outstanding musicians in their own fields.

Maybe not so obvious to some. Sure the verve became awful but Storm in Heaven is one of my most favorite and cherished albums ever, possibly my most favorite. Here's a sample from their first album. Blows my mind every time I listen to it. 1 guitarist. Genius.
