Guardian: 70p

How far can they push the prices before people give up and read the website instead? That's what I'm doing from now on!

I can not understand why they would possibly be wanting to do this.

70p does seem a lot but when you put it into proportion with all the other things that cost way more (the cost of a magazine for eg..)

Maybe it's the full colour do-da that's forced the price up.. or they can't get the ads.

All newspapers are having sales probs at mo aren't they?

If you want to bitch about a newspaper try the Observer instead. As far as I could tell, reading it on Sunday, it had no dedicated Foreign News section at all. It did, however, draw attention to five pages' worth of "our brilliant team of columnists".

Why I don't buy a Sunday paper, in a paragraph.

Come Sat will the price of that have gone up too? £1.20 for a huge wad of middle-class lifestyle crap that for the most part I bin with scarcely a glance is already a bit excessive. Don't suppose they could do a half-price newspaper-only deal?

It's a well-known phenemenon that the thicker a newspaper becomes, the less there is in it.

I'm gonna switch to the Star as its gone down to 25p and has more bristols in anyway

I tried starting a thread about this...

knew I should have put it in general...grrrr

It's worth pointing out that the cover price covers printing and dist costs, the journo's salaries are paid for out of the EVIL stuff, advertising.

BTW, if any of you anti-webad peeps are interested, GU still offers an ad-free version of the website for a small annual subscription...

I take it the saturday one will have gone up as well?
What's this about student vouchers? I'm a student and had no idea I can get it for 20p...

you have to pay almost 3 euro for the international/european edition... 70p's a bargain

Nope. You pay 3 Euro exactly. For a newspaper printed locally in mainland Europe.

NB: Papers from Spain or France retail at HALF that in other EU countries.

THE UK papers are ripping their international readers off.

Woman at the tube kiosk had to scream at me over my ipod yesterday morning as I deposited 60p into her hand and turned on my heel. Still worth the cash IMO.

your lucky its 2.50€ or £1.75 here for a very very slim version, wankers

To be honest I'd pretty much given up on Sunday papers years ago. Once you've binned the proprty, travel, style and sport sections, and ignored the remaining columnists, you're left having paid twice as much for less news than on a weekday.

For me the choice comes down to this:

7 days of Guardian & Observer = £3.50 (week) + £2.90 (w/e) = £6.40
versus:
The Economist = £3.10 (£1.94 if you get it on subscription (delivered)).

Reading the latter means I can avoid wading through reams of brainless shite to get to actual news and decent analysis as well. For up-to-date daily news I just use the BBC (Radio 4/News24/Newsnight), u75 & Google News

didn't it use to be 2,80? come to think of it, i think i paid 3 the last time around yeah. maybe they've raised the price for that one too

btw, frankfurter allgemeine is 1,50 euro which is roughly 1 quid. the guardian's still not that expensive, although there seems to be less and less content in it

I went through a phase of reading the Economist regularly, but its blatant bias and political naivety put me off. I only buy the occasional copy now.

i used to read the economist when i had a really cheap subscription. it ended, i moved country and realised that i could get a paperback for roughly the same amount as a copy of the economist costs.

I'd like to know this too. Although I've now graduated my NUS card is for some reason still valid until September so if I can milk it until then I will. 10% off in a plethora of somewhat overpriced shops is OK but cheap papers would be better in the long run.

How much are newspaper these days. Wouldn’t be surprised if they’re like 3 quid or something.
