GTX8800's - I knew they were beasts, but by Jiminy, look at the size of it!

Heh, dimensions and press shots aside, it ain't till you hold em in your hand you appreciate teh bulk. I hope me case mountings are sturdy. Pff!

Can of Stella and the ashtray are for scale, of course, and no, that isn't a child's hand.

Thats the 1st full length PCIe card I've ever seen.

I'd say that I'd be worried putting that into the primary slot on my M/B, it'd be right up against the hard drives in my case..

I hope your PC is bolted down, or that fan wil just blow it off the desk!

EDIT: Assuming there's no backwards running treadmill, of course.

There's no way that'd fit in my case. My 6800 ( :( ) is squashed in as it is.

I wouldn't touch the connectors, btw, but maybe I'm over cautious.

I think you'll find that the fan blows down, in this case you'll be fine as long as you don't try and use the computer in low gravity.

I also note that dogmatique is a man of style, with one of those plunger-twisty ashtrays. Good man :)

To be honest, not a huge amount at the moment, though existing stuff should run with full goodies even when there's shitloads of NPC's running around. I'd probably have been better off buying an Xbox (and cheaper too), but hey, I'm a PC boy, even if that does make me a bit of a dinosaur. ;)

I love the way that a can of Stella is being used to illustrate the size!

It's the new, internationally recognised allusory size guide - like 'If this supertanker were on it's side, it would be 5 times the height of the Empire State Building'

'On it's side, this graphics card is nearly the height of 2 cans of stella, or 3 double decker busses'

Lets just hope you haven't killed it by holding it like that :)

Were you grounded for anti static? That sweater prolly generates a fair amount :D

You saying I shouldn't have used it for table tennis last night? :o

Bugger.

nice card, VERY nice card, I bet Oblivion would look the mutts on that

Must say I'm shocked by the size of the full-length PCI-E cards too, I've just recently installed my ATI X1950XT card and fuck me it was long. Good job I've got an oversized case, it's a tight squeeze in there, especially as the card needs it's own power from the PSU (which necessitated me buying a new friggin' PSU  , however, it does have shielded wires and it's a modular PSU so only need to plug in what connectors I need  )

Stella for scale again! 120mm fan hooks onto the fins at the side.

Should finally be building it this weekend. Last motherboard arrived in such a damaged box that the corner of the motherboard was poking through it. Pulled it out of the bag and a capacitor fell out and rolled under the fridge  .

So now instead have this asus one, which is probably a blessing.

One of the Seasonic modular PSU's? Putting the 700 version into my new box. Looks very nice. No redundant dangly wires! Though must remember to keep the spare cables safe for future use!

Be careful with it, the fins bend very easily on the scythe ninjas.

Aye. Noticed that - check the top right hand corner. :o

Mind you, I did buy it specifically due to your recommendation, so I hold you personally responsible. :D

Edit: Hang on a minute Bob! You recognised that by sight didn't you?

As much as I love you; especially for your breadth of component knowledge, you need to get out more our kid. :p

jesus the size of that heatsink! crazy man, do you have some sort of monstorous case? I'm using the one that came with my card, sapphire are quite good in my experience so sticking with it, plus I've got loads of space in me case

... PSU - no I went for an enermax, quite nice, quiet (has 120mm fan), but only thing is ... doesn't have little blue LEDs like my last one did ...

yeah, the modular design is neat, especially as 1 cable can have multiple connectors on it - SATA/IDE/floppy so you only need 1 cable to connect multiple devices.
