Growing your hair out

Buy a few wigs. I have a beautiful bobbed pale pink one which is way different from my long chocolate brown hair. i have never had short hair but kinda think the growing out stage could be fun...you get to go through a few new hairstyles whilst waiting to reach your goal.

Wigs are good fun, its interesting how people treat you differently depending on your hair colour too, though i never tried pink :D

I think the Louise Brooks bob is FIERCE. My hair is totally the wrong texture for it, though, but I bet it would work on you, zenie.

I'm not growing my hair "out" as such, but it is markedly longer than it has been in over a decade and it's at a length that it has never before enjoyed. I dig it. It grew out really well!

Have fun, clips, pigtails, etc.

They always look a bit 'bushy' to me, doesn't your hair need to be a *bit* longer too.

And don't people guess you're wearing a wig? :D

I mean really....

Not if you go for a good quality wig, my two cost alot but 8 years on they still look great..i went for a blonde one too just for fun but i do look odd as a blonde :D People didnt realise i wore a wig unless i whipped it of to have a scratch :p
I had extensions when my hair was about an inch long all over, i wore a scarf for a while as they looked pretty obvious but once it got longer it looked ok, they are good for a quick fix but are expensive and need replacing as your hair grows as they tend to thin out.
I still have some underneath.

I get so much attention when my hair is pink.

It's purple at the moment, which is cool - bus driver REALLY embarrassed me the other day, yelling out of his cab and tooting his horn - but not as much as when it's pink :)

I bet :D iv only been brave enough for pink bangs a few years ago, im so bored with dark brown hair at the moment but dont think i could carry of pink! i'd look like the girl of lazy town! :D

I'm debating growing mine for a bit.. have a really posh party to go to in February and am thinking of dying it "platinum" to go with the party theme of "Hollywood glamour". It needs a bit of length.

Certainly my intended outfit won't suit purple.

If "platinum" looks crap, I'm going all out with "hi octane orange".

I've always grown my crops out in a shaggy cut that works with my dumbass, flicky hair, which seems to work for me, but might not for others. I'm too much of a lazy bint to use scarves and clips much, but I really ought to bother!

try the hair, nail and skin suppliments that you get in H&Bs. I'm taking them at the minute and they make a noticible difference to the speed your hair and nails grow at.

In the mean time, loads of product and flat kirby grips, not clips. Use two kirby grips at a time and cross them over when putting them in, which 'locks' them in place and stops you having to faff with them during the day.

I grew my hair out from an inch long when I was 24, it's half way down my back now three years later. :D

How do women who want to be 'fashionable' cope?

Grow it long, cut it short, grow it long, cut it short. Must drive ya bonkers.

I've noticed recently the fashionable cuts have been quite sensible. In that it's getting gradually shorter. No doubt they'll be bunging in extensions next.

ah they are called kirby grips are they? i call em clips :) the cross things works really well too

ah - to me clips are those little round plactic multicoloured and glittery grippy claw things that teenagers insist on sticking round their heads.

I read that as Morning glory. :D

*backs out of hair style recommendations thread only having had hair cut once in two years, and that was by my mum...*

My mum and I were just talking about how stoopid hair fashion is - one minute you 'must' have a fringe... the next, no fringe, then it's short, next it's long again. It's only models and slebs that can keep up with this with the help of extensions/hairpieces etc. And even if the ordinary mortal did have easy access to them... who can be arsed?

Any tips on growing hair long when it’s dead thick?
Trying to grow it out cos I’m over 50 and want to flaunt my follicular density to my less fortunate peers (not really, I’m just curious).
Past attempts have yielded poor results though, cos the hair just grew up and out, resulting in a dense gingefro that resembles a lion’s mane.
I thought it would be a different story this time around as it has thinned out with age, but it’s still growing up and out so it looks a bit mad and wild when unattended, and like a helmet if tended to.
Is there some sort of technique to this that I can apply or is just that some hair is not suited for growing long?

Is your hair curly?
You might find that it needs to grow a bit longer so the weight of it pulls it down, rather than up and out iykwim?
I've got curly hair and it's curlier when shorter.

Mousse is your friend..
I've very thick curly hair..it grows up and out for a while but once it's about 6 inches it starts to go down a bit. While it was shortish I put plenty mousse in it and comb it through to the ends (this is actually a tip I had to learn) it controls the hair very well.. then part it whatever way you want..and leave it dry fully.... before you touch it.
Your hair should stay put and not bounce out 🤪

I had long hair during covid. It got to the longest it ever was...about half way down my back. It was extremely difficult to manage and then life turned to shit and the last thing I needed was a mass of hair..so I cut it off...short.. like really short. 2 inch all round. It's taken 3 years and two trims to get it to shoulder length.

If you're happy to take your time and find ways to control your hair then you'll have no problems.
I've resorted to hair bands and clips and tying it up recently. Once you get to a stage where you can tie it in a ponytail you'll be well on the way to long hair.
