I would add that the brain drain which operates internally within the country, and recouperates (educates) the working class offspring de facto leaves these areas without the organic intellectuals which were once the leading lights of the working class movement.
The North East has very fortunate in respect of the brain drain in attracting some whose intellect is almost as big as their ego.
