Why do some people think the Uk is immune to a significant far right political presence:, eg MP's running local administrations, in Southern France for instance, the FN have run areas and had mayors for many years.

Because many people still tend to measure "success" in politics by how many parliamentary seats are held, not by grass-roots success at ward level, even success as creeping but steady as that of the BNP.

I don't understand why people are suprised - he always stands where he feels there's the best chance of him winning a seat (it's a total non-story in that sense). There's no risk involved and he's likely to get a decent enough vote to make the party look a bit more respectable in terms of parilamentary elections. He be mad not to.

IMO I'm afraid too many people haven't cottoned to the "respectability" issue, and miss the point that with each BNP electoral victory, of whatever type, the "BNP respectability" discourse is built on, their presence in the field of national politics lent legitimacy.

I am not advocating that, I said "I hope". 'Turn the Knife Crime on Griffin' is interesting for a couple of reasons; it answers the crime question from a radical pov in a way that is funny. What is the left response on knife crime? non existent, here is an interesting angle in the place of some tedious policy statement that the masses wouldn't read (however much we would like them to).

The primary aim is to gain more publicity and to show the UAF attacking them and to portray themselves as victims.
