Greensleeves 12"

Oh yeah - if anyone has any spare Greensleeves 7" black company sleeves like in the pic I'll gladly take em off you for postage and a bit extra (or whatever makes sense).

Well there was this 1998 ragga one, which I did for the blogariddims series. Terrible mixing, great tunes! ->http://www.uncarved.org/blog/2007/04/blogariddims-19-john-eden-bounce-me-back-to-98/
and this early noughties one, with Paul Meme / Grievous Angel ->

Less greensleeves, more Fashion but posting seeing as uncarved was linked; this one is one of my favourite mixes ever; I had to rip a copy for home, car, and campervan :) played each of them to breaking point.

yeah - you get a bit of the 'sim simma' vocal dropping in every now and then. It isn't a straight instrumental either, they've fucked around on the desk with it.

ska invita here is another one on discogs where its called "Jeremy Harding Who Am I instrumental". I have an mp3 I can send you but its a 192 so alright for the bedroom but not suitable for a PA/Soudsystem. Its called "Jeremy Harding - Playground Riddim Version" just to confuse things!

Here is a photo of a Greensleeves 10" :D

Amazingly they have only ever released two of these in their 37 years of existence as far as I can tell...

This is the first one, released in 2008 by Matt "Lion Vibes" Morris. Good melodic upful roots.

Think I've only got two Greensleeves 12s lying around still - Under Mi Sleng Teng (of course!) and Under Mi Sensi Jungle Spliff. Like porno, the Sampler comps were my entry into not only Greensleeves but dancehall as a whole really - think Vol 4 was my first

looks like they did a deal with Gussie Clarke - almost all Gussie productions

Yeah I think many of the big producers angled for a deal with Greensleeves just because of their size and distribution. They certainly had Junjo Lawes stuff locked down in the late 70s and early 80s.

i was looking through the tracklistings of the samplers last night - some really excellent stuff there

anyone know where Greensleeves got the name from?

Didn't the early releases come in green sleeves or am I misremembering?

There was what looked like a great book which included massive photos of the first 100 albums or something. Put out with a trainer company iirc. But it was £75 quid so I didn't bother. Anyway it included a biography of the label I think.

There was loads of Gussie Clarke stuff on Greensleeves, they must have got in early with him and then ridden the wave when he ruled the dancehall at that period. The production was so good, when you drop one of the twelves it always sounds fat, crisp and loud on a sound system. These compilations are all great:
